So what are you going to do to stop us if the next president has balls? Go to war with us? Anyone with a brain can tell you are using this situation to your advantage, while you greedily claim S.China sea despite your neighbors and the international waters therein.

Deploy THAAD. Then they can claim we went to war, and the Chinese advantage in that region is significantly reduced. They'd hate this, but technically it's not war is it?

Stupid greedy Chinese.

@James you are right about Walmart dollars benefitting the Chinese, and they need money to wage war or even claim waters the were never theirs. That's what happens when most nations go broke. It's why Germany started both the world wars we've had, it's why backstabbing Russia is putting its hands on the Ukrane and threatening NATO, and their currently fault wrong economy is why the China are going after the S. China sea.

One thing at a time though; lets get THAAD into place.

Having differences is not uncommon between nations. However far apart the perception, the stakes are VERY high. It is youthful folly to entertain thoughts of military action against China. US and China are so inextricably linked almost as if husband and wife, the ties are deep.It is better to seek common ground and ways to cooperate and prosper. This doesn't mean China has always been right and the same is true for America, what it means is we can and should try to do better TOGETHER.

You should not talk such a macho talk , consider the children and the future of the world. Peace is better and we can continue growing in understanding and hopefully, respect.

You are wrong if you think China is "all bad", the good exists as well, be mature. Also realize America is not perfect.

And what about all the other nations which will suffer when the Chinese take that body of water? They are aggressively doing so because no one has shown the backbone to stop them. They are dragging this out so N.Korea has time to become an effective threat. Then we'd be spread out against Russia, several nations in the Middle East, NKorea, and too weak to deal with a power as large as themselves. It's blatantly obvious to anyone with a brain.

Our policy towards North Korea has changed very little, if at all, in 60 years. The situation over there hasn’t changed much either. No matter who the President is! If you don’t think Eisenhower had balls and military knowledge I wonder who you think does.

Red China is cruel to its people and Communist North Korea is extremely cruel vicious and oppressive to its people. Furthermore, the communist tyranny of North Korea heading to the dictator, Kin Jong-un, which has the unfitting and false title “The people’s Democratic of North Korea.” It’s a totally false as well as unfitting title for this harsh and oppressive Marxist regime because it’s not in the least “democratic.” Likewise it’s not really a “republic” at all. For a real republic come from the Latin - res publica means “the property of the people.” For this dictator and his gang of communists in power in this tyrannical Marxist regime have all the property and power. Moreover, this heinous Marxist dictator, Kin Jong- un , does come down hard on the freedom and human rights of the People trapped in North Korea through his brutal and ruthless gag of thugs who are his state police. Therefore the North Korean people exist in terrible fear of Kin Jong –un because of his all is cruel and vicious power. This is a reminder of what Benjamin Franklin had printed in his publication of POOR RICHARD’S ALMANACK . Which is “Those who are feared are also hated.”

@Moshe - Haifa, Israel; YES, America IS so kind and generous to its Blacks and Hispanics!! Unfortunately, although there are opportunities here for everyone to advance, the Black minority are destroying themselves and causing mayhem e.g. Chicago, Detroit, Newark, NYC, Memphis, etc. Many of these cities and communities have been ruined by the indigenous, Black inhabitants. And, If you haven't noticed my friend, there is a BLACK American president that is on his second term in office. Also, unfortunately, too, there are millions of illegal Hispanic immigrants, who rape the system, as well as American citizens, commit other terrible crimes, bring in vast quantities of illegal, addictive drugs, overwhelm and in some case, bankrupt schools systems and hospitals, just for starters. Our porous southern border is a sample of what is happening in Europe now. You might want to start keeping up on current events, since apparently, you don't seem to have a clue. There is also the possibly that you live in a parallel universe, devoid of reality!

Stop to think for yourself for a second, fi you can, since you let your government do your thinking for you, and ask how can China achieve what it has achieve so far if it oppresses its people. Oppressed people will not achieve anything, specially to make their oppressed government look good.

You Americans seem to think that you are all that and that everyone wants to be like you, but the fact is, that you are the oppressed ones not others you that you claim are.

The actual question is what's Xi gonna do about it? The time is rapidly approaching when China will have no actual leverage over North Korea. All these weapons can fly East as easily as West. Xi is making a very Western Imperialist error both in the South China Sea and Korea. Xi plays for control. He could as easily have said, "We'll partner with every country with a claim to develope the resources for a share of the wealth." A more traditional Chinese mercantilist strategy which would have put China at the center of a S. China Sea empire.

China's approach in the Korean peninsula is combing sanction with negotiation, as the most recent UN security council resolution stated. China doesn't believe, as the U.S. does, applying pressure alone will succeed; it might create chaos.

For the SCS dispute, China had proposed joint development of resources as early as 1980's. In an agreement with AEAN in 2002, they agreed to resolve the dispute through negotiation only. Now, a country like the Philippines thinks it can get more from China with the U.S. support.

Reporter, adding a bit of history will definitely help readers to get a clear picture of the South China Sea issue:

In the 3rd century, the local government of the Jin Dynasties (China) exercised jurisdiction over the South China Sea islands by sending patrolling naval boats to the surrounding sea areas. (Nordquist & Moore 1998, page 155)

5th–13th centuries: Naval forces of the Song State of the Southern Dynasties (420-479 AD) patrolled the Paracel and Spratly islands.[43] In the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD), the islands were placed under the administration and authority of the Qiongzhou Perfecture (now Hainan Province).[43] Chinese administration of the South China Sea continued into the North and South Song dynasties (970-1279).[43]

1883 - When the Spratlys and Paracels were surveyed by Germany in 1883, China issued protests.[40]

1887 - The Convention Respecting the Delimitation of the Frontier Between China and Tonkin between France and the Qing Empire set the maritime boundary in the Gulf of Tonkin.[49][50][51] The 1887 Chinese-Vietnamese Boundary convention signed between France and China after the Sino-French War said that China was the owner of the Spratly and Paracel islands.[40][52]

1898 - The Philippine Islands were ceded by Spain to the United States in the Treaty of Paris following the Spanish–American War. The U.S. reminded the Philippines at its independence (1946) that the Spanish-American treaty of 1898 made it clear that the western limit of the Philippines islands did not include the Spratlys (South China Sea).

1956 - Vietnam (DRV) declares Paracel and Spratly Islands are historically Chinese territory.[63]

1958 - The People's Republic of China issued a declaration defining its territorial waters which encompassed the Spratly, Paracel Islands and other islands in the South China Sea. The prime minister of Vietnam (DRV), Pham Van Dong, sent a diplomatic note to Zhou Enlai, stating that "The Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam respects this decision." The diplomatic note was written on September 14 and was publicized on Nhan Dan newspaper(Vietnam) on September 22, 1958.

Pham Van Dong:

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Vietnam (SRV), in office, 2 July 1976 - 18 June 1987

Prime Minister of Vietnam (DRV), in office, 20 September 1955 - 2 July 1976

From the Chinese foreign Minister Wang Yi:

The fact is, according to the Treaty of Paris in 1898, the Treaty of Washington in 1900 and the Convention Between the United States and Great Britain of 1930 which defined the territory of the Philippines, the western boundary of the Philippines is delimited by 118 degrees east longitude. The Huangyan Island (Scarborough) and Nansha Islands (Spratly) are completely to the west of 118 degrees east longitude. They are not the Philippines' territory. After the Philippines gained independence, the domestic law of the Philippines, and the relevant treaties concluded by the Philippines all accepted the legal force of the three treaties mentioned above, and confirmed the scope of its territory to be limited by 118 degrees east longitude. Nevertheless, after the 1970s, the Philippines (dictator Marcos) staged four military operations and illegally invaded and occupied eight islands and reefs of China's Nansha Islands. This is what is at the bottom of the territorial dispute between China and the Philippines.

1968 - The Philippines (dictator Marcos) sent troops to three islands on the premise of protecting Kalayaan citizens, and announced the annexation of the Kalayaan island group (South China Sea).

China has repeated many times: the South China Sea archipelagos are China's sovereignty, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) does not have jurisdiction over the sovereignty issue. Specified in China's UNCLOS ratification declarations, China does not accept any of the procedures provided for in Section 2 of Part XV of the Convention with respect to all the categories of disputes referred to in paragraph 1 (a) (b) and (c) of Article 298 of the Convention.

Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Russia, United Kingdom and many other countries do not accept any of the procedures provided for in Section 2 of Part XV of the Convention:

The Russian Federation declares that, in accordance with article 298 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, it does not accept the procedures, provided for in section 2 of Part XV of the Convention

Well, at least two of the three main players on the peninsula are sensible. NK has an insane dictatorship that doesn't bother to make life reasonable for it's people, but has plenty of time and money to flaunt ICBM's, tanks, subs and small nuclear weapons so as to draw attention to themselves. Without these the country would be totally ignored. How sad for the citizens of that poor country. They deserve better. Especially after suffering though this jerk and his father for so many decades. Hard to imagine a society where you can't speak freely or think freely without fear of government police arresting you for same. In this day and age of the Internet it is amazing to think about a backward society like the North. The people there deserve much better. If China safeguards peace in the South China Sea the way it's prevented "war and Chaos" on the Korean peninsula the world should expect war and chaos to break out in the South China Sea on a regular basis, to never be resolved, and to be blamed on everyone except the perpetrator. China needs to recognize that it is a hypocritical, lying, oppressive, hegemonic nation that is trusted by no one for three very good reasons - the Chinese government is 1) hypocritical, 2) lying, 3) oppressive and 4) aggressively hegemonic.

"As a close neighbor of the peninsula, we will absolutely not permit war or chaos on the peninsula. This situation would not benefit anyone,"

So he basically is endorsing the tyrannical NK government's abuse and starvation of it's own people. Not to mention it's bellicose rhetoric.

CUNNING ATHEIST CHINA IS A COMMUNIST THUG NATION and a TERRITORIAL & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & MILITARY THIEF. THE RISE OF CHINA IS THE RISE OF SATAN. BOYCOTT Chinese-made products and BRING BACK JOBS FROM CHINA.

Now China wants to play a good guy.

Without the Chinese supports, North Korea would collapse in a few weeks. Don’t believe what China and North Korea said because Communists have a long history of doing opposite what they said. China pretends to go along with UN sanctions on North Korea. However, it is backstabbing UN behind the scenes by not implementing the sanctions. China has transferred nuclear and missile technologies to NK and is using NK to threaten South Korea, Japan and their Western allies. To fulfill its dream to dominate the world, China is using NK to proliferate nuclear weapon technologies to Pakistan and Iran to destabilize the West, India and its Asian allies. The best way to solve the North Korean nuclear problem is to effectively contain the North Korea’s sole supporter China militarily and economically.

Leaked Chinese military doctrine shows its emphasis on using dirty tactic of supporting Islamic terrorism behind the scenes to make troubles and to drain national resources of USA, NATO and India in hopes to remove their backbone supports to its surrounding Asian countries.

Xi Jinping is weeding out so called anti-corruption. However, what he actually has done is NOT anti-corruption but to brutally eliminate anti-opposition to consolidate power. The Chinese Communist leadership is a bunch of hypocrites. The bribery and corruption are the common ways of life in China. There would be no surprise that the Chinese top leaders including Xi's family and their relatives have accumulated billions of dollars through bribery and corruption according to Panama papers. While corrupted themselves, all new Chinese leaderships when came to power always eliminated their oppositions in the name of such as anti-corruption, anti-counter-revolution, etc.

China is using a slow step by step tactic of land grabbing to avoid escalating to a big crisis to fulfill its bigger dream than its ancient dream of Big Chinese Han. Not only it wants to economically and militarily dominate the surrounding countries like Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Koreas, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, etc. but also to divide & conquer (the West and Asian countries) and to rule the WHOLE WORLD including USA. The past lessons have taught us that China never gave up its desire to CONQUER and to constantly WEAKEN its neighbors. The Chinese culture and current Communist policy have taught its Chinese people to achieve its economic and military goals REGARDLESS of tactics including deploying dirtiest and most immoral & inhuman tactics such as poisoning its own infant milks for profits. BOYCOTT Chinese-made products and BRING BACK JOBS FROM CHINA.

The West and its Asian allies cannot afford to lose SCS to China. If they lose it to China, China would be #1 superpower in the world, and there would be detrimental economic and military effects on the West and its Asian allies. China will eventually rule the world if the West and its Asian allies lose SCS to China. The world cannot avoid but MUST STOP even with military means the Chinese ambitious territorial & economical expansionism disregarding international laws and REVERSE job and manufacturing shipping to China. This is only way China can learn to behave. The West and Russia should set aside differences to contain China because China is a lot worse than Russia. Russia is not Soviet Union anymore and does not have an ambition to rule the world but China does.

Due to its lack of legal and historic proof, China refuses to recognize the authority of the permanent court of arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, the UN-appointed tribunal that adjudicates in international disputes over maritime territory. The Chinese ancient map of the last Chinese Qing dynasty (from 1644 to 1912) did not have the disputed Spratly Islands, Paracel Island (claimed by Vietnam) and Scarborough Shoal (claimed by Philippines). Ancient maps of Vietnam and Philippines have had those islands on them for hundreds of years, respectively. Vietnamese and Filipinos have lived and fished on those islands for thousands of years. China only started to claim the absurd 9-dash line including these islands in 1947.

From 1954 to 1975, Vietnam was divided into Communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam (officially the Republic of Vietnam). In this period, Spratly and Paracel islands belonged to South Vietnam. The North Vietnam's Communist Premier Pham van Dong had no legal jurisdictions over these islands. However, he secretly sent a letter in 1958 to the Chinese Communist Premier Zhou Enlai to acknowledge China's legal jurisdictions over these islands. Dong’s action was illegal, invalid and immoral as a thug action at best. He is a traitor and criminal of Vietnam. The same thing as if a man neither owns a car nor has the car title in his name, it is invalid and illegal for him to give that car not being his to another person. Communists are famous for stealing other people's properties.

China is a COMMUNIST THUG NATION inside its capitalist shell and NEVER can be a trusted business partner or ally due to its CULTURALLY underhanded, immoral, atheist and selfish mentality. Shipping jobs and manufacturing plants to China is only a temporary benefit but a huge problem & very harmful results in the long run.

Nations should NOT join China's AIIB because China will backstab its foreign business partners sooner or later. Under the influence of Chinese culture and Communist atheist policy, Chinese people lie, PATIENTLY wait for opportunities to backstab and steal intellectual property information from foreign countries while shaking hands and doing business with foreign partners. Foreign companies are learning a bitter lesson when partnering with a Chinese Communist thief with backstabbing and underhanded business practices. When China becomes strong and learns manufacturing technologies coming in from abroad, it drives out foreign business partners from China and does not uphold agreements. 90% of Chinese students, who attended Western universities, had forged their academic records for admitting purpose.

- China is very cunning when investing billions of dollars in Africa. Most of Chinese projects were done by Chinese contractors and Chinese laborers so African people did not have those jobs, could not learn the skills and know-hows. This is contrary to the West investing in China, most workers are Chinese who learn skills & know-hows and steal Western intellectual property information. China bribed corrupted African officials to buy Africa’s national resources such as mines and lands at dirt cheap prices. To solve its over-population and unemployment problems, China is migrating millions of Chinese to African countries to pop up China towns and eventually controls the economy of several African countries.

- China is greatly over-producing steel ON PURPOSE, and it is flooding the world with its dirt cheap steel to drive small foreign steel producers out of business with its aim is to monopolize the world steel business in the future. China is buying many valuable foreign companies, foreign national resources and mines such as Swiss’ Syngenta which was the world’s largest crop chemical producer, strongest in Europe, biggest port of troubled Greece, etc.

- China is dividing OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers to bring the oil price down for its own benefit because China is the biggest oil importer. While the world is flooded with oil supply on low demand, China bought most of surplus oil ON PURPOSE and is running all its refineries at maximum rates. It is flooding surrounding Asian countries with its surplus refining products such as gasoline, diesel, etc. at dirt cheap prices to drive the refineries of surrounding Asian countries out of business with its aim is to monopolize the Asian refining products in the future.

- The Chinese government openly encourages & applauds its citizens and Chinese descendants around the world to be spies to steal economic/intellectual property and military information regardless of means from other countries especially USA, Europe, Russia, Japan and Israel (its great air defense system). My own experience about Chinese people is that most of Chinese descendants around the world is only loyal to their motherland China. As an example, I was in Singapore, which makes up by a Chinese majority, for a week in 2014 and talked to a taxi driver who is a Chinese descendant. His heart is totally for China, and he hopes China would dominate the world in the next 10 years or so.

- China applies without hesitation lawlessness, dirtiest and most immoral & inhuman tricks such as poisoning the world with its dirt cheap & poisonous products including its own infant milks for profits.

- China exports dirt cheap foods mixing with forbidden industrial chemicals to surrounding Asian countries to drive those countries' businesses out of business and in the same time damage & weaken people of those countries without firing a single bullet by causing cancers and DNA genetic disorders on them and their future generations. This is TRULY A SATANIC CHINESE TACTIC.

- China built huge dams upstream of SE Asia Mekong River to prevent water from flowing downstream to Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. This is severely affecting the crop especially rice growing of these countries and causing the backflow of seawater (which would make the growing land useless) to hundreds of thousands of acres of growing land of Vietnam which locates at the end of the Mekong river flowing out to the sea. This Chinese dirty tactic has caused a severe drought, economic damage and life stress to people of these countries.

- China is a serious human rights violator in every minute. It killed tens of millions of its own people through the Cultural Revolution, performed the Tiananmen Square massacre, is daily persecuting religious people and is harvesting organs of jailed political dissidents. The Chinese one-child policy killed 400 million babies.

Or maybe the wise move would be to tell China (quietly, without media hype) to put a stop to it or WE WILL. Of course, China knows America doesn't have the guts to do it, so they will ignore us, hoping we will do something stupid so they can blame us for whatever happens. It's called "internationally stupid politics".

it's easy,, tell China to shut down North Korea's nuclear weapons! are We will! we were gone a bomb Iran for nuclear weapons! . So the idiot from North Korea should be no exception! if China can't do it. The rest of the world will!

BigRed, we have officials and military in SK now formalizing and planning the deployment of the THAAD system. It only takes a few weeks to deploy. Of course if China can somehow change Kim's mind and actions regarding development of a nuclear weapon that is verifiable, the there would be no need to deploy the system. Unfortunately, I don't think Kim even listens to the Chinese anymore not that he has successfully detonated a low grade nuke. The time for China to have successfully intervened may have passed.

Really. Anyone who believes this-I have a spare bridge for sale. China would love a destructive war between the US & North Korea eliminating competitors South Korea & Japan at the same time or at least moving them into the Chiana orbit. If China wanted N Korea to be nuclear free it would be.

In my opinion, it is only due to the U.S.A. that chaos & war have not already broken out.
