They would land in a nuclear wasteland Russia with half population and cities wiped off the map. If you strike us first you could destroy every City in the United States but nothing would stop the nuclear subs we have in the oceans from retaliating with nuclear missiles.

What makes you think it wasn't on the retaliatory mission. I am sick of seeing Russia painted the bad guy. The US starts wars, and the mess we are in, that is of US origin not Russian. If anyone is going to shoot the nuclear bullet first it will be the bloody Yanks, and I am happy Russia has the means to shoot back at them, it's frankly the only thing that is keeping the US from taking us all over, you know, because American democracy is the very best.

The reason is very simple actually. Resources, the import and export of resources, land, and sovereignty. Those are what people fight over. All of the posturing is simply to say, dont even try. When troops are sent in, it is usually to protect another country and the raw materials and politics that country supplies. Oil is the big issue now. There is no part of life that would remain unaffected by a lack of oil. There would be no plastics industries, no fuel, no heating or lighting, Without oil a modern country would be back in the stone ages
