A large section of the residential building was seen peeling off from several dozen stories above and collapsing to the ground, while shocked witnesses gasped in amazement.

The incident  in Shenyang, capital of China's north-eastern Liaoning Province, seemed to suggest that poor building material was used on the outer walls of the building.

Once battered by wind and rain, the fragile wall of the high-rise then began to come loose and eventually collapsed altogether. 

A passing resident is said to have heard scattered bricks falling onto the road when he decided to pull out his phone and record the incident, eventually catching the moment large portions of the wall came down.

Reports did not say whether any locals were injured during the wall collapse, but pictures of the incident suggested that passers-by stood clear of the area where bricks and other insulation material crashed down.

It is also unclear whether authorities are investigating the incident, but property developers responsible for erecting the high-rise could face heavy fines for endangering the lives of local residents.
