I play different games with them. I just keep saying hello over and over in a childlike voice and they get pissed off and hang up.

I seemly inform them that they have violated the law as I'm on the National DO-NOT-CALL List and that they will be reported, then hang up.

yes,Mchris152,beause its not enforced for 1 thing.I don't have a landline phone any lore, just a cell, which is set to vibrate, thats why it stays in my front pants pocket,MY BAD? and with the mid term elections coming up,those calls are as unwelcome to me as the telemarketers call. My simple solution, well, gave you the 1st hint,hehe,2nd hint,CLASS,pay attention,i just don't answer my phone,if its an important call, they will leave me voice mail

Doesn't smell right. Why does phone registry need an email address?

The DO NOT CALL registry is a joke. Most of the calls I get a "spoofed" such that the telephone number showing up on my CallerID is not even real. There are technological solutions to unwanted calls, but the Telco's are "in bed" with the telemarketers, so the Telcos are not motivated to fix the problem. The legislators apparently are not tech savvy enough to press the Telcos for the real solution.

I just ask them if there is a tall building around, if they answer yes then I tell them to go jump off of it. If that dosnt work then I just tell them to fuq off. Most get a clue at that point.

Gimmee a break here .....telemarketers are scammers in a room in a call center where you never get the same retard. The best way to get rid of these idiots....tie up their line and act like you agree or want what they are selling but never give them your info...tell them you are getting a credit card to pay for whatever and leave the phone.....don't come back until they hang up.

why answer? practically every phone lets you know who is calling. what's the point of technology if you aren't going to use it :)

I don't WANT to "help out" the telemarketers. I just want them to go the hell away. Its just MY opinion that the people who do telemarketing are lazy individuals who don't want a "real" job. I know there are those who may be handicapped and this is the only way for them to make money, but as for the rest of them..GET A REAL JOB!

Use Caller ID to Identify any and all unwanted calls. They are usually 800, 877 numbers. Google or Yahoo the number and find out who called you. There are lots of websites that will tell you who it was that called you and their experiences with the caller. A home phone with an answering machine system is also a good choice to stop unwanted calls. If the 800 number is a your cable company or your insurance company etc., expect them to leave you a message. You already know the phone numbers of family and friends, take a message call back or simply pick up the call.

I usually ask "who's calling, please?" which puts them on the defensive right away. If they give me an answer, I then ask "Regarding...?", which mostly baffles them. Not on the script. Then I just say, loud and clear, STOP CALLING ME!. But, if I'm in the mood to mess with somebody, I will whisper urgently..."I TOLD you NEVER to call me here! You're going to get me KILLED!"

A coach's whistle into the phone is a great deterrent.

The Do Not Call Registry does work to some extent, but anyone you do business with can call you as well as charities. My response to a live person is always " I don't take phone solicitation." and I hang up. But I also get robo calls from "Rachel". Everything I've read says to not press any numbers to be asked to be taken off the list. So what can we do? I joined AARP and seem to have dramatically increased my junk calls. Since I voluntarily joined it, they can legally call me with offers. It's more than annoying.

Rachel has been calling me for years and years. I don't have any credit card debt, so I'm not sure why she is calling.

Qualify any call:
1. Hello---(it's someone you don't want to talk too)
2. Five second delay
3. Fooled you.--they talk some more
4. Five second delay (at least)
5. Please leave a message at the sound of the gong.
6. Ten second delay
7. Unless your a telemarketer

Will somebody PLEASE let "Credit Card Services" know it's illegal for them to call if you're on the "Do Not Call List"?!?! I had one telemarketer tell me I was going to continue receiving calls from them for the rest of my life! They have called as frequently as 3x/day & phone #'s do not always appear on caller ID as toll free w/ company name but as local w/ private name. We started giving them fake info, stringing them along 'til they were ready to transfer our call to the "closer", then informing them we had just wasted their time as they've wasted ours in the past...so much for their commission! Another rep told my 13 yr old son to _ _ck his _ _ck! What's more ironic is I have no credit cards to refinance! I reported all this to the US Attorney's office, only to be told they cannot do anything as the company is based overseas & US restrictions do not apply HOWEVER, they are offering a reward to anyone who comes up with a way to stop them!!!

Those tips are LIES. They do NOT work! I have been on the Do Not Call Registry for YEARS and have reported MANY telemarketers who called my registered number.......and they STILL call back!!!!
I have done everything the "law" states that I need to do to stop the harassment from these vile, contemptible, and despicable people and companies....and they STILL call....and the "law" STILL refuses to do anything about it!!!!

What I do now is change my phone number. Sometimes its a year, sometime its every two years.......but when I start getting telemarketer harassment calls, I just change my phone number again. A pain in the butt, but it works....especially since the "law" cant be bothered with enforcing deterrents and fines against these vile creatures.

I was being harassed several times a day by various telemarketers, especially "Credit Card Services." Then I found out about NOMOROBO.com and signed up. I also set up my telephone service provider to ask callers for ID for any unidentified calls, and not put through any that do not identify themselves. By doing these two things, I rarely get a telemarketing call. I was also on the Do Not Call list, which didn't work. Good luck.

Telemarketing and door-to-door is an antiquated and lousy way to get business.
