The cause of declining bird population is surely related to their food supply? Motorists pre 1960 were used to having windscreens covered in squashed insects on any countryside journey but then came rampant use of insecticides, hence today there are far fewer insects, cleaner windscreens but also leaner birds! Or can our global warming experts twist the dearth of insects onto climate too?cotoneasterjayReply toPeter
Lack of food is obviously critical but is linked in with climatic factors. For example, birds try to time brood hatching with the flush of invertebrates which occurs when trees come into leaf in spring. However, this coordination is breaking down and fewer chicks are fledging.
