A live-streaming host from China has been sentenced to four years in prison after spreading obscene videos on the internet, according to Chinese media.[CN]

The 21-year-old, whose screen name is 'Sherry Gun', was arrested after a video called 'Foursome in Chengdu' became widely shared online.[CN]

该名女主播21岁，化名Sherry Gun, 她拍的“成都四人行”视频在网络蹿红后遭到逮捕。

Sherry Gun participated in the filming together with one other woman and two men in order to attract more followers for her online live-streaming business, reports said.[CN]

The two-minute-long video became viral in March, according to Huanqiu.com, an affiliation to People's Daily, which cited a report from Chengdu Business Daily.  

The search term 'foursome in Chengdu' quickly became a top search term on various search engines in China. 

It was also widely shared on Chinese social media platforms, such as WeChat and QQ.    

The video caught the attention of officers from the internet security team at the Mianzhu Public Security Bureau. They quickly set up a team to investigate the case.

Police officers found out one of the female performers in the video was known as Sherry Gun on the internet.

Sherry Gun works as an online host, who live-streams her daily activities through social media websites and mobile apps to her 40,000 fans.

Police identified Sherry Gun as 21-year-old Lin who is from Deyang city, but lives in Chengdu.

On May 4, two teams of police officers from Deyang and Mianzhu arrested Lin in front of her residential compound as she returned from a holiday in Dubai.

In addition to Lin, two other suspects, identified as Wang and Li, were arrested at the same time.

According to the police, Lin, Li and Wang have admitted to spreading obscene content on the internet.

All of them were aged under 22 and come from wealthy families. 

The three suspects said they had decided to upload such content in order to pursue fame.

The police also said that Lin who had worked as a saleswoman in Chengdu found it too hard to earn money. 

She then quit her job to become a full-time internet host. 

The police said Lin filmed 'Foursome in Chengdu' with one other woman and two men in a rented flat in Chengdu in February.  

The video was one of the 31 obscene videos Lin had posted, said the police, and she managed to earn 75,000 yuan (£8,758) from the business.

Lin was sentences to four years in prison on November 23 by the Mianyang People's Court. 

In addition, she was  fined 100,000 yuan (£11,678). Her computer and mobile phone were confiscated by the authorities.

According to the Chinese Criminal Law, a person who 'produces, duplicates, publishes, sells or disseminates pornographic materials' shall be sentences to fixed-term imprisonment of no more than three years.

In a 'serious' case, the person could be sentenced to no more than 10 years in prison. 

If the circumstances are 'especially serious', a jail term of no less than 10 years or life imprisonment shall be sentenced.
