Tehran (AFP) - The first train to connect China and Iran arrived in Tehran on Monday loaded with Chinese goods, reviving the ancient Silk Road, the Iranian railway company said.[CN]

德黑兰(法新社)——连通中国和伊朗的首列列车周一抵达德黑兰,车上装满了中国货物,以重新恢复古丝绸之路,伊朗铁路公司称。

The train, carrying 32 containers of commercial products from eastern Zhejiang province, took 14 days to make the 9,500-kilometre (5,900-mile) journey through Kazakstan and Turkmenistan.[CN]

这列列车32节,车上装满了来自浙江省的商品,花了14天行程达9500公里,途经哈萨克斯坦和土库曼斯坦。

"The arrival of this train in less than 14 days is unprecedented," said the head of the Iranian railway company, Mohsen Pourseyed Aqayi.[CN]

“这列列车不到14天就可抵达德黑兰,这是前所未有的,”伊朗铁路公司主席Mohsen Pourseyed Aqayi称。

"The revival of the Silk Road is crucial for the countries on its route," he said at a ceremony at Tehran's rail station attended by the ambassadors of China and Turkmenistan.[CN]

丝绸之路的复兴对在路线上的国家至关重要。他在德黑兰铁路庆祝典礼上指出,出席典礼的有中国大使和土耳其官员。

The journey was 30 days shorter than the sea voyage from Shanghai to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, according to Aqayi.[CN]

“陆上运输比从上海到伊朗阿巴斯港的海上运输要缩短30天时间。”Aqayi说道。

The railway will not stop in Tehran "as we are planning to extend the railway to Europe in future," generating more income for Iran from passing trains, he added.[CN]

铁路不会到黑德兰就停了,我们计划将来延长铁路到欧洲,从过往的火车中给伊朗带来更多的收入,他补充说道。

The train will leave every month and the frequency will be increased if necessary, Aqayi said.

The train is run by private companies using existing routes, Iranian railway company spokesman Sadegh Sakari told AFP.

According to Iranian media, more than a third of Iran's foreign trade is with China, which is Tehran's top customer for oil exports.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani agreed last month to build economic ties worth up to $600 billion within the next 10 years.

It came during a visit to Iran by Xi, the first by a Chinese president in 14 years, and just days after sanctions against Tehran were lifted under a historic nuclear deal with world powers.

Xi's signature foreign policy initiative known as "One Belt One Road" is touted as a revival of ancient Silk Road trade routes.

The Silk Road is an ancient network of commercial land and sea routes, named for the lucrative Chinese silk trade, that were central to business across the Asian continent connecting China to the Mediterranean Sea.

Speaking purely as a lover of history, THIS IS FREAKIN' AWESOME! Not enough people today understand and/or appreciate just how important this ancient trading network was in shaping the contemporary world. It took centuries for the Silk Road to be fully mapped out and utilized to its ultimate potential of exchanging all sorts of goods, ideas, etc., and it was the closure of the Silk Road that triggered the first wave of European overseas exploration (which, as we all know now, led to Columbus' landing in the West Indies).[CN]

Interesting. We can't get our workers from Fresno to Silicon Valley; yet China can get its products from China to Iran via train overland! How crazy is that? This will also accommodate Chinese workers to migrate to Iran and allow for greater access to Iran's wealthy and increased needs due to past sanctions. New job and work opportunities to bring Iran's infrastructure up to date and modern. Syria is right next door and Russia is ensuring its influence unless they continue to bomb the h*** out of Turkey and incites World War III .[CN]

Michael: I lived where I worked and now am retired. Not an issue. My son is paid enough that he could buy a house 20 minutes away from his work. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford houses here in the valley because of pricing. We are talking teachers, police officers, garbage disposal workers, clean water techs, repair people, etc.

Modesto has lower priced housing so does Tracy. The corporation need workers and those young workers need to get here. Unless your solution to it all is to not employ anyone outside the valley? As a citizens, you may not be responsible to get me where I want to go but you may want to consider whether your children can go where they can be gainfully employed. Perhaps you would rather live in a third world economy. Thanks for your comments. If your goal is to return to an agricultural economy, you concept of society supports that. If you don't build people movers of some kind, you build roads that will take more space, pollute the air, etc.,

Personally, I try to look to solutions that hopefully leave the world a better place for my children and grandchildren. I consider myself blessed with the opportunity and skills to work at those successes.

FBI searches home of brother of San Bernardino shooter Farook

Reuters



(Reuters) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation searched the Southern California home of the brother of one of the shooters in the Dec. 2 San Bernardino attack, a law enforcement source close to the investigation said on Thursday.

The source said that investigators with a search warrant went to the Corona home of Syed Raheel Farook, a Navy veteran whose brother and sister-in-law, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, killed 14 people at a holiday party.

Officials are battling Apple Inc in court to get the company to help them unlock an iPhone that had been used by one of the shooters.

The source said that investigators do not intend to make an arrest on Thursday. The source did not say whether the search was related to efforts to unlock the iPhone.

Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife died in a shootout with police the same day they attacked the holiday party.

Another opportunity missed, another mistake made. When do we finally understand that we have to establish healthy relationships with these countries instead of constantly threatening them. The train is leaving the station and we are not on it. Flexing muscle brings fear, it doesn't serve the average American one single bit. The Chinese are smarter than we are. They understand the signs of time and act and position themselves. We could have sold goods and services to Iran and get paid well for it. But our #$%$ leaders don't see that. But hey, what do they care about average Joe. They have their pensions, endorsements and other sweet little perks. No wonder we are going. Down the drain.

Once again, while America is having to deal with the #$%$, China comes right in and starts making money off of the Iranians. Happened in Iraq, Africa, Afghanistan and Central & South America. American government needs to wise-up. All America has to offer its workers are $9.00 hr retail jobs. Wait until 2025 when everything gets really automated. I can remember when Paterson , N.J. was the " Silk City of America " and because of all it's Farms was called the " Garden State." This was after the Industrial Revolution and before Long, America made every Blessed Thing right here on our own Shores. WE had great Steel Mills, made Great Locomotives , Homes and even better, made Great Citizens. Sure many pursued the $ Dollar and sure we had " Robber Barons " running the Government and the Banks as well. But we made all we needed and we could thumb our noses at the rest of the World. They came to us, we didn't go to them. But the Lure of the Dishonest and plentiful $ Buck came to the greedy and they saw the lure of Low Wages overseas and never stopped to think that no one back here would have the money to buy their junk when they brought it back here to sell.

Mark, at the height of the industrial revolution, the USA was almost self sufficient in everything, minerals, oil, lumber, farm goods, etc. That was a long time ago now and America has used up most of it's natural wealth. That notwithstanding however the USA has been a utopia and to a great extent compared to most of the world still is.

Thomas, not many people would consider the time of the Robber Barons as better days. Vast portions of our country were under their control, millions worked for slave wages and on pay day were required to purchase groceries from the company store at inflated wages that left them further in debt to their employer. When workers rose in protest the US govt originally sided with the corporations, called out militias and ended some of the conflicts with bloodshed. It was only when people finally woke up to the dangers of unfettered capitalism that reasonable regulation took hold such as child labor laws, work comp etc. we now live in a global economy and world.

Not war but trade, cooperation, friendship , promoting development, provided information and infrastructure building made win win to all.

Welcome to see the reborn of the ancient Silk Road that link people, link ancient civilization , bring back trade, and business partner to today modem world.

Tehran (AFP) - The first train to connect China and Iran arrived in Tehran on Monday loaded with Chinese goods, reviving the ancient Silk Road, the Iranian railway company said.

From other report, China has train connecting China to Germany..the list goes on as time moving forwards..

With the amazing economy growth rate in the past 40 years, with the great tracking record in economic development and relative consistence in growth, Being the major trade partner with every country in the global and to all the major nations around the world, with Chinese Yuan, one of the major trading currency around the global, is become one of the reserve currencies in the world..

China is the major long time trade, business and development partners of US, Germany, UK, EU, Africa, North and South America, Russia, India, in Far East, Central Asia including Tajikistan and in Middle East, and many others countries and all the oval regions.

China does Not waste money for war, China does not Bomb here and there, not military drill and gunboat diplomacy everywhere, not dirty political attack on others, not demonize others to benefit self, not active stir up and carry out regime changing operations everywhere destroying legal countries as Iraq and Syria, not start war by lie that killed 100 thousand innocent life in Iraq along , making Iraqi people suffer for decades even till today. Not waste fund as NSA to spy on all mankind including world leaders and U.S. Citizens

China solely focus to promote trade, to invest and to build infrastructure, economic development, investment, provide jobs to help economy , build highway, high speed rails, provides need goods for all, rich and to those who are not that well off, win win for all.

Many Made in China products are useful, with good quality and cost effective, that why many buying them, people have choice to buy others, competition benefit consumers, meanwhile, people select Made in China products for good reasons.

Today countries and people prefer work together in cooperation, promote trade and win win, fight poverty, promote education not Cold War , nor wars, not demonized others, regime change operation to overthrow legal government for itself own benefit, to solely benefit weapon makers and the war machine in Washington DC, trying hard to make chaos in all area and region, restart new Cold War . Sad..

Happy to see China plays a very positive role in these peaceful development process with Vision of Silk Road economy belt for peace and commonwealth of the people..

Not war, not world power supremacy, not gunboat diplomacy, not discriminating any nations or culture, but solely promote growth and development is the way to go..

Cletus, 8000 a year, surely you jest. It's dumbos like you that adds to the problems in America. Face the facts man or go out and see the world as it is. Anyone here traveled to a Major city in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan. Or Europe, France, U.K., Italy? Let's start with any major city in China... Even those in the interior. Cost of living for the middle class is more than what it cost for us in the US, 8000 a year? A Big Mac cost more then it is in the US and yet you see plenty of people at McDonald's. A Venti Cap at Starbucks cost 33 CNY yet the lines are out the door. These are cities with 10-20 million residents, streets full of luxury cars costing 3 times what it cost in the US. I went with my mother to Guangzhou and Shenzen and she was like... Wtf seems everyone's driving new cars, and you realize yea... Wow seems everyone's doing well, don't really see anything more than 3 years old on the road, except those delivery vans. Head to any other country on the above list and you see why when you land at the airports there's Chinese everywhere. Everyone's taking Union pay. It's been our arrogance and fear that blinds us to what's happening in world. Instead of working together we always thought to have others follow us, that we are better than everyone else. Sorry man... The fact is the worlds progressing. Instead of always trying to put the chinaman down maybe we should look at how much they have progressed in the last 30 years and ask ourselves what we could be doing. Blame them you can for stealing technology, taking jobs blah blah. But isn't that what the US did during the industrial revolution. Like we didn't steal... Oh I mean "adapt" technology from Europe. It's only natural. So much innovation in China these days it would scare you. And stealing jobs... Well it's the big corporations that brought them the jobs. You can't blame these people for wanting jobs, that's just friggin ridiculous. What did you expect the china man to do... Oh sorry big corporation man, I can't take your job, if I do some American guy will be out of work, I just keep working on my farm digging up carrots.

@Jerry: What is Chinese GDP per capita, hmmm? It's not quite $8000, now , is it? What's with the polluted rivers and polluted air? The Chinese can't drink tap water at all...because it is terribly polluted. I hear they are spending hundreds of dollars buying canned air from the UK...lol. Really...what is this fantasy you are selling?

LadaN: for some reason to you China is a perfect country. Really? It's a major human rights abuser, it restricts its citizens to access to all sources of info. It really is a 'police state'.

Personally, I'd like to see my country (US) get the hell out of the M.E. Let the various Islamist-groups kill one another on their own.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
LadaNivaReply toLadaNiva

August: And you think we don't have a de facto police state as well?

Do you think the Western mainstream media (all owned by gigantic corporations with close ties to both political parties) gives us access to all sources of information? How many Americans were told by our media that the US State Department was organizing and sponsoring the violent street protests in Kiev that led to that country's civil war? How many Americans are aware that Bill and Hillary Clinton personally met with many of the Ukrainian oligarchs in Yalta (September 2013) just weeks before Hillary's best buddy at the State Department, Vicky Nuland, began organizing those protests?. How many people are aware that one of these oligarchs (Viktor Pinchuk) has donated at least $15 million to the Clinton Foundation and received a very unusual waiver of import restrictions for his company InterPipe which caused the loss of American jobs and reduced profits for American pipe producing companies? Why do you think the Western media never mentions that Assad is backed by 99.9% of the Christians in Syria or that he was widely considered the most moderate of all Middle Eastern leaders with many Christians appointed to high level government positions? Why do you think the Western media never told the America people that the Albanian Muslims and the Kosovo Liberation Army were slaughtering Christian Serbs in the Kosovo region long before Milosevic sent in the national troops stop the genocide being committed by the Albanian Muslims? Why would Bill Clinton decide to side with the Albanian Muslims instead of the Christian Serbs who share much of our same culture and values? Could it be because the Muslims have donated hundreds of millions to the Democratic party.

Did any of our Western media question why John McCain was in Syria meeting with the radical Islamic fundamentalists and giving them our support with arms and military intelligence to topple the moderate leader Assad?

Don't you find it odd the Western media isn't covering the thousands of cases of Civil Forfeiture where US Treasury and local law enforcement agencies now take citizens' personal property, money and bank accounts without being required to prove they have committed any crime? The government now monitors everyone's phone calls, e-mails, and monetary transactions without the need for a search warrant? The government can now charge parents with child endangerment just for letting their kids walk to blocks to the local park? I'm guessing even in China they have not gone this far so when you talk about police states, please look around and open your eyes because this is exactly what we have in the good old USA today.

Lada; you are clueless about the US. 3/4 of the world wants to live in the US. You hate the US because you are ignorant and part of some anti-American group. But that's your problem.

With all it faults (and they are plain to see and read about), the US is by far the greatest country in the world.

LadaNivaReply toLadaNiva

August: That may have been true 20 or 30 years ago but things are changing. I know many people who have come here in the last 10 years or so and decide to go back home after experiencing the high crime, taxes, nanny state/politically correct police BS they have to put up with, etc., etc. Yes, they came here expecting to experience living in the land of the free but were totally turned off by the government's control of every aspect of their lives and the narrow minded liberal thinking that seems to prevail almost everywhere in the workplace and schools.

China is aiming to turn the "Old World" (Asia+Africa+Europe) into one giant trade zone. It's taking globalization to a whole new level. China has become the middleman in bringing technology and infrastructures from the developed world into the neglected regions of the world, and through this strategy gaining tremendous leadership credentials. The most interesting result will be which of the poorer developing countries will become the new economic "tigers" in the coming decades. Iran is very smart in giving up certain things to focus on its economic development.

Our socialists pacifists human rights tree hugging democrats have been made fools of in wars and in trade. Maybe in 2017 we can get aggressive enough to get back into the game. The Chinese president Xi Jinping and Khamenei the old Persian King do not have a lot of faith in the socialists pacifists tree hugging peace and harmony, so they will use it to help build their trade empire.

America is loosing the whole Middle East because of a wrong cause: Supporting the Zionist occupier who let millions of Palestinians live in refugee camps for more than six decades. Is this really America about? Does this support American values? How an honest, hardworking and intelligent American can be behind such blatant occupation of Palestinian motherland? How a sound mind can justify letting the indigenous people live in refugee cams outside of their county for decades and people from all over the world, with different incentives, come to occupy their mother land?

Middle Eastern in-spite of all these rifts do not have any deep bad feelings about America. But they are #$%$ off with the lack of America's sensitivity toward long Palestinian suffering. American people should take charge and fix this problem.

What America needs NOW is numerous high speed bullet trains across the nation, STOP all military drills non-stop conducting every day, especially in Asia Pacific region, that only makes the situation getting WORST, it would FORCE North Korea to make NUKE by all means, even people are hungry! While Putin still happily annexed the Crimea peninsula from the poor Ukraine without firing a shot! Syria becomes his play ground, while massive migrants flooded Europe almost daily, Germany already received a million of them in less than haft year, from the Middle East and North Africa messed up by us by the so called Arab Spring, or The Color Revolution! Yet, we carry an unbearable national debt, a world highest Defense budget, military bases all over the world, while our deteriorated highways and bridges are lack of funds to repair or update, qualifies senior high school teachers were forced to take early retirement or facing layoff losing all the benefits, Student loans were a serious burden of our college students, newly grads couldn't find a job except a sale person! Older unemployment folks simply giving up hope to look for a job! Enough is enough, simply give us a break!!!

Either we remind China and North Korea of who really rules the Oceans of the world or the situation in SE Asia actually will get worse. Do you honestly think that North Korea, a nation in self-imposed isolation from the rest of the world, wouldn't still be looking for ways to conquer South Korea if they didn't have the threat of total annihilation at the hands of the US for trying? Do you think China wouldn't just jump the channel and take over Taiwan or at least cut it off from outside trade if it thought it could get away with it? Or that China wouldn't bully it's way into being a total regional superpower if the US didn't roll through every now and then to remind them who's really in charge?

You speak of undoing the very thing that keeps that region stable.

You are absolutely right. Wars have do nothing with people who live here. We have 19 trillions debts. One trillion equals a $1,000,000,000,000. Think about 19 trillions interests just for paying out to creditors each month. The printer has to print for a while just for the interests. Roads, railroads, Bridges, schools, utility facilities etc. are aged and needed to be rebuilt. Shame on politicians are still talking the same topic every elections and the topic never gets solved, only some interest groups gets profits.
