Man jailed for months over $5 theft found dead in cell
People will only look at the fact that he just stole a candy bar and was denied bail. I can assure you he was denied bail because he either had open warrants, a lengthy criminal record, or has a history of failing to appear in court when he's arrested. But the liberal media will make him appear like a victim, not the person he stole from, or the thousands of tax payers who have to pay for him to be housed. Those are the real victims. He's just another thug who did wrong and paid the price for his own actions.

parents are responsible. they should have gotten help for him. the jail was trying to get him admitted, but our lousy goverment officials did away with mental institutions. our goverment cannot take care of our sick veterans much less the mentally ill. sue obama!
When you are an adult, family can't require the State to make your family member get the mental help they need. The person have to do something to themselves or someone else before the State does anything. The Aunt tried to get the jail to get him help. When he would not take his meds or eat that was probably a sign that something was wrong with him and the State should have stepped in and place him in a mental facility and given him meds/nutrient through IV. The lawsuit is about principal because the jail was responsible for his care. If you are going to continue to arrest African Americans for petty things then you are responsible for them while they are there. He was arrested for stealing $5.00. How much did the State pay to house and keep him locked up? We have become a society of people with no common sense running our government agencies.
His $5.00 theft was probably not the point of his being jailed, as there was probably a string of crimes that went hand in hand with it, or parole violations or warrants. The background was not given in context with the headline.
As to the rest of your statement , I agree with you, thoroughly.
First off why on earth did he ever get arrested for stealing a snickers bar or $5.00 worth of goods. This is going way beyond the need for an arrest. When you have someone who will not take their meds or eat you can not force them to do so. As to getting into a MH facility there is usually some kind of waiting list and the jail can not do anything about that but wait. The Nursing homes, hospitals have the same problem if there is no room. The only thing that might have made a difference is if this facility had cells in their Nurses station where they could be put on 24 hr/15 min observations. NOT all jails have this!. It is very sad that he was put in jail over $5 but even sadder he refused his meds and this end result. There is no room for petty crimes like this and his mental issues should have always come into prospective. Hell someone could have dished out the $5 and taken him home. Such a waste for this young man.
He got arrested for petty theft because he got caught. Not like the other petty thieves who got away with stealing thousands of dollars of snickers.
It was the families job to use their free healthcare plan to get their son the mental help he needed before he became an adult. BUT on the other hand why is $5 worth items at 7-Eleven cause to arrest, detain, and waste HUNDREDS OF $$$ per DAY, ok in this country? It is NOT ok and the stores need to stop putting this on the public. They need to stop acting like every theft is cause for a police call and come up with a few different strategies and options. Enough of this. If the restitution for a $5 item was not turned into $700 to be paid to that store they would not call on these BS thefts. $5. Wow.
I wonder, why was he denied bail? Maybe he appeared to be a danger to himself or others because he wouldn't take his medication.
Poor scumbag. We lost another Nut Case.
I have answer's for the family. Your son stole 5 bucks and was in time out and died while in time out.
Yeah, I bet the 5 people before him in line and the 5 people after
didn't die in jail. Why is that? Oh wait I know. They paid for their
stuff.
Another Gentle giant. If Obama had a son that stole, required meds
and refused to eat and died while in custody, he would be just like
him...
No crime = no jail. Pretty straight forward really. For whatever reason, some people can't seem to grasp that equation.
This is very sad. All the news media reports come out with enough details to piss everyone off. burn the city down and we will give you the rest of the story. don't anyone blame our Government for not having enough mental facilities. now the family is crying brutality. but how many times they visit him? where were the protester for four months. No where they didn't care until now!
The comments here upset me. (Not that it matters - but I do have European white skin from heredity). If your kid had been in jail since April for stealing a candy bar, denied bail, and had mental health issues, I don't think any of you would be making these horrid comments.
America has really become not the country for those who have not: "bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses", but one of ancestors that did come here, do well, and think it is OK to now belittle those that have not.
If this was your child you would be looking for justice also.
Shame on you all.
