There is no reason for bail to be denied. OBviously this family did nothing to get him out of jail nor did they care enough to make it an aware situation to the public until now- when they smell money and lawsuit.
And as for the comments on here about another poor black boy arrested for "stealing a snickers" and being dead now---- hear this: First of all don't STEAL! Second of all, stop bringin attention to these types situations and not bringing the same appall to the situations like the officer shot in the back this morning by another thug who should have been in jail already.

Have you ever seen a family in anguish or fear, from another family member who was in the throes of Mental Illness?
Have you ever seen how many families have tried counseling through private insurance or through public clinics, to help that person, who may have been threatening them, or stealing from them?
It doesn't matter if the Mental Health problem stems from an organic type, drugs or alcoholism, their brains are still scrambled.

The facts are that money for Mental Health care and facilities for long term care are given the short shrift in this day and age. Most mental health admissions, prior to the 1990's, were automatically a minimum of a one month stay, to ensure compliance with treatment and medication adjustments, before discharge to outpatient treatment centers.
Today, it's 3 days to one week admission, tops, then back out in the streets for the families and their afflicted to fend for themselves.

well sounds like its his own fault he didn't want to eat he didn't want to take his meds. You cant force him do it ...this is not the first time someone died in jail after been arrested for petty crime....and it wont be the last

By any measure this is a tragedy. 24 year olds rarely die of natural causes. The justice system failed abysmally in this case. My only question is why he was denied bail and why his public defender ( I presume no private attorney was involved) allowed him to languish in jail since April. A thorough investigation of everyone who contributed to this debacle is needed. The family are well within their rights to sue the authorities and toothless posting here who allege they are just after money I can only ask how THEY would respond if it was a member of their own family who was subjected to this travesty.

Maybe black lives should start mattering to the black communities. Stop having illegitimate children and raising thugs and criminals. I work in a high school and the "students" with the worst behavior are black males.

i know you simpleton whites dont understand the difference between a thug and someone with mental issues. nobody deserves to die because of a candy bar , stolen or not.

I want to know why his family didn't get him the help he needed. And you don't get tossed in jail and denied bail unless there is more to the story but then AOL couldn't start more rioting. FU AOL

Where was the family when he was struggling with mental problems? They couldn’t have made sure he had enough pocket money he didn’t have to steal candy bars from the 7-11? Now they want justice which is black for MONEY. I think his mental probably began early when he was forced to spell his EBONIC name Jamycheal over and over in school or to strangers because NO-BODY could sound it out phonetically or spell it even if they did pronounce it correctly. That would make ANYONE crazy.

The main issue is why he was in jail to begin with. Doubtful he got all that good of health care on the outside, either. A sad lesson for a family to learn and hopefully this is an example of those who follow in these same footsteps. Jail is not a very socially connected place so everybody should do their best to stay out of them and obey laws such as stealing as a good beginner .

Let me give you some info I can see. The MINORITIES are READY to FIGHT BACK. They now know that they will never be accepted for all their hard work helping this country grow into the worlds #1 power. Whites want to RID this country of 60 million BLACKS and 10 million Hispanics. War #3 rhetoric has BEGUN, MAN vs MAN is nearing USA.

For all their hard work? You haven't worked for room and board since slavery

I do not want to rid the country of blacks. I want to rid the country of gang banging criminals who think they are owed something because of a practice that was outlawed over a hundred years ago.
Look at the colonists. A hundred years after the freedom they earned they were kings of the world. Why. CUZ THEY EARNED IT! they owned slaves you say? True...they owned slaves who were sold by their own family members

That's crazy. He shouldn't have been jailed over a $5 theft. Stealing is only stealing when over $6 is taken. Poor guy. He didnt deserve to be in there

There is probably a lot more background as to criminal offenses by this man, than the teaser headline about a single $5.00 theft.
Perhaps there was assault involved, or a weapon was brandished.
Perhaps he was violating a previous parole, or a warrant was out on him for another crime.
Let's wait for the whole story.

my post was sarcasm. I don't care if someone steals a dollar. If they steal 1 dollar they'd steal a million. LOCK 'EM UP

So what kind of help did he get from birth to 24 from his parents? And this kind of charge surely has a low bail. So why did his parents/family/Black lives Matter/Sharpton/lawyers/Jackson/NAACP/ACLU fail to get him out and get him some help?

Sad to be locked up for stealing a mountain dew and candy but even so seems his greatest supports (in hind site) turned their backs, until he died.

He was denied bail for a mile long rap sheet not for shoplifting

The fact his bail was denied means there is more to this story. He was being held because he must have had additional charges pending OR he was deemed a threat to the public or himself.

Okay, here is a public forum, so put it out so there is no guessing. Ferguson, 2 months waiting for an official police report, is that a good standard? With Ms. Bland, the backward investigation and lack of authoritative intervention is sickening. The problem is these jails are losing it, they are a danger to people. The public should expect a higher bar.

Yes from blacks

Did you read the story? They wanted to move him to a mental institution but there was no room. So he had to stay where he was. Not really the jails fault. They might have been waiting on a judges decision or the district or states attorney's input as well. It is not always as simple as you seem to think it should be.
