If it was an antimatter particle, the explosion would have happened as soon as it hot the top of our atmosphere, about 80 - 100 miles up. This explosion occurred much lower, maybe around 10-20 miles up. Probably a comet.

A larger object hitting the upper atmosphere at, say, mach 1000 (about 1/80 the speed of light - easily possible in space), will explode like an orange hitting a brick wall at 70mph.

It was a release of methane gas from the tundra which ignited...

"Others have suggested UFOs, supernatural activity, or the curse of a god " You think that was slipped in for nothing in the "science section". Whatever it was , it's now being appropriated for the establishments world government justifying Hoax Alien threat. Expect to see a lot more of this propaganda

They always seem to assume that something must have hit the ground, but maybe it was just a VERY near miss.

I think the various layers of the atmosphere protect the Earth and so protect us from this sort of thing.

I'm no scientist but why couldn't an asteroid detonate in the lower atmosphere and cause the devastation without the need of an impact crater

The asteroid, or comet, or whatever, disintegrate before impact. The explosion in the atmosphere touch ground with the force of an atomic bomb...

Even then we - the Soviet school children ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ and analyze what is happening by producing your own opinion! It was the task of the school in the German language to express their own version of the disaster!
