@Marion Thanks, that explains it. I wish they would use stock photos that at least are a bit better fit with the article.

Because the British Armed forces write factual after action reports, which if they do not endanger forces in country will report this to the media. We do not engage in flights of fancy like the Puzzle Palace.

This sounds like more western propaganda. We need to send Prince William as an envoy to negotiate piece deal with ISIS.

This story originated in the Daily Star Sunday. Mmm, a really respectable newspaper, isn't it. The Star's readers aren't exactly known for high IQ's. DM readers are rapidly becoming the same. It's a fake story, people. If it was true, it would have been in one of the more respectable rags.

Correct Answer
Ofcourse DM are perfectly aware that these stories were proven to be made up fantasy nonsense, but still a good gung ho tale to disguise the fact that the superpowers are totally incapable of dealing with ISIS. Some peopleactually believe these childish comic book tales.

It does. I'm sure the 12 captured thought he was, he could have just sat there and watch it happen but he acted and saved lives

Are you joking? Would you put yourself forward for that kind of career? It's not just 'a job', it's a lifestyle. To even get through selection is heroic, you fool. These guys aren't sitting making spreadsheets in an office and whining about not getting enough credit, there is zero chance of you ever hearing a special forces man asking for any kind of approval, they just silently get on with it. One of the many reasons why they are all heroes.

Nice story - but simply not true. Shooting a fuel tank will not cause it to explode.

It will if it's an incendiary or AP round as it has enough flash and flame to cause a fire, just look at slow mo hits of even armour piercing rounds. All it needs is gas vapour and a spark and boom the vapour goes up and catches the rest alight.

SteveReply toJonesy23
Oh so very wrong.Check ouit what sort of bullets the .50cal Barrett can and does fire. Among the very many rounds there's a Zirconium-tipped round which, in itself, is explosive. There's also at least two tracer rounds which, by definition, are on fire as they travel. In any case, a supersonic round hitting a metal object (the fuel tank) is going to cause instantly so many white-hot fragments that are sure toi ignite the very hot fuel vapours caused by the passage of a very parge, very fast-travelling bullet.Combat is nothing like Hollywood, FYI.

@kinkyJohn - nonsense comment - If I watched and believed the Bond films, I would have no problem with the story. Mythbusters have debunked the exploding fuel tanks. Just post a video link proving the opposite and I will bow down to your superior knowledge. You do realise the story originated from the Daily Star?

I wonder how the DM manages to get stories from the special forces operating covertly in hostile Syria. I'd love it to be true but it's probably a free-lance hack writing from his parents cellar

I want to know more about the hostages being rescued. Were the all rescued? Did any of the die during the rescue? It might have been a fantastic shot, but if it was taken from so far away, it leaves the hostages at risk for quite some time..
