Russia doesn't need to waste it's nuclear arsenal on America, they just need to abide their time and wait patiently until the super volcano under Yellowstone Park erupts, which could be anytime soon. Then it's GOODBYE America.

Oh well...Reply toPtah
Most of Russia will disappear as the permafrost melts also, so it's neck and neck right now...

I am willing to believe that if that volcano does go off than there is a God.

The Russians can barely update their existing hardware.

Neither can America. You can't even come up with a working ejection seat .

The ACES II and Martin-Baker ejection seats work well enough.

Even if they manage to make one, their pilot will be drunk on vodka and crash it.

The arms race bankrupted Russia (same size economy as Italy) in the 1980's, looks like history will repeat itself.

Russia develop a hypersonic stealth nuclear bomber by 2020? Bwahahahahaha

Putin+co don't know what the rest of Russian people think, and you know what's happened to deaf Westminster here. Russians want the monopoly on their broadband kicked out for example, not ICBMs to bomb the countries they get their income from! There's a big desire for emmigration in Russia now.

So long as they don't accidentally on purpose take out American satellites its none of our business. The minute the gossip of China and Russia (no facts) wanting to destroy our eyes in the skies becomes a reality, we have a big problem.

The Russians and the former USSR a long time ago proved they could do independent R&D.

Well, if the Russians go ahead with this project and loudly broadcast this plane's offensive capabilities, they can't exactly complain if the USA develops effective systems to deter it can they? Only a socialist would have trouble understanding this...

X ray lockdown already covers this. I think understanding physics is more important than political stance is more a more important in compression of how nuclear war works

The Americans have already flown a hypersonic aircraft, with an engine that was designed in Queensland Australia. So it will be sometime before the Russians or any other nation catch up.

Was that a development on an old Chevy or Buick engine...lol...I'm not aware you do much high-technology in Australia. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Lortaybill, The fact that you are not aware of it is exactly how the world of secret projects is supposed to work. Obscure sourcing of components and subsystems. Lots of empty open spaces on land and plenty of unoccupied ocean areas.

It will run on kerosene? Really? Kerosene?

Mistranslation. It actually runs on KY Jelly and pictures of Putin riding a mountain lion.

Kerosene is basically jet fuel.

So this plane will be able to cruise at well in excess of 15000mph? This is about ten times the speed of the present day fastest aircraft but it will be necessary to reach anywhere on earth within 2 hours as according to the article. Seems a bit too much of a leap to me.

Jonathan FrameReply toPiair
This is possible with rockets but not jet aircraft. However I have my doubts an aircraft of this size will be able to hold and keep cool rocket fuel to travel to any spot around the world in such a short time.

They dont even have a Stealth plane let alone a Stealth space bomber.

It'll be just like the T-50 PAK-FA; a few dazzling prototypes will be built and flown to show off, expenses will skyrocket, R&D process will stall, and the project will be silently canceled.

You make it sound like most next gen US jet fighters. which are inept and extortionately expensive.
