Wars don't just get started by 'stupid people'. There are orchestrated many years in advance by people behind the scenes whose names history will never tell. The politicians are just frontmen for the real powers who move the global chess pieces.

Well, it's 50/50. If I'm not a troll, it must be true. Are you a gambling man?

That first photo looks a scene straight out of the movie Saving Private Ryan. It's amazing the work that Spielberg did in that movie.

I agree with other commenters that President Lincoln appears to be far beyond 54 years of age in that 1863 photograph. But it's no surprise considering what he went through during the first two years of his term. He must have looked like an 80-year-old just two years later in 1865.

The face of the "desert fox" is very fascinating ... piercing and doubting at the same time.

Loved them. You could do one of these photo series every day without creating boredom. We just spend an hour trying to guess the identity ofeach one by using small clues - but while my father (say) would have got them all, we missed at least 25%.

Lovely colour photos of a terrible period in Europe. History repeats itself in the 21st century...

These are fascinating! It's so rare we colour pictures of these types that they almost look like stills from films and TV shows, really interesting!
