The female cops were either scared to knock on the door, or intimidated into not knocking, or did not think it was that unusual to hear screaming-- whatever the case may be, they are a disgrace to the uniform and cannot be trusted to save lives when it matters most.

What did the passengers get?

Their lives. What more reward could they get.

The screaming runs I should think.

Loose bowels. Y=They probabaly had no idea, it looked like a normal takeoff.

Their lives...what do you think ?

They didn't know anything happened most likely.

If he was taking off he would have been at full power, so how could he accelerate?

arronReply toUKDiva
they dont use full power on takeoff its all worked out how much its needs, full power is reserved for "go around"

Oh dear, I hate to write this comment but something is niggling me. It appears to me that he had already reached the critical commitment point and would have been unable to stop. He then had no choice but to turn on the power and try to complete his take off and clear the obstacle aircraft.I fully accept that experts have examined this and reached their conclusion so perhaps I am misinterpreting what I have seen of it but it is how it appears to me.

Your assumptions are fairly correct, please allow me to answer what niggles you. The commitment point had passed, but the designated take off location would have been just beyond the crossing aircraft. However, seeing the aircraft crossing, knowing there was no time to contact the ATC to inform them to speed up the crossing aircraft, and knowing he couldn't stop or turn the aircraft to safety, he knew that in applying full power to his aircraft he would achieve take off speed sooner, but the downside was he would need to undertake a steep climb rate (all passengers & crew are seated and belted). In undertaking the steep climb he also avoided prolonged jetwash from his engines blowing the crossing aircraft to bits. Another thing is, what we watched is a simulation, and maybe under exaggerated rather than over exaggerated. I hope that helps?

Heroic---I think I would call this self preservation.

What was the point of including a video that is just a very poorly animated reconstruction of the incident ?

Why aren't they paying the crew of the other AC for not taxiing at a slow pace so they weren't hit? Thule whole incident seems suspect as if pilot is a relative of an exec at the carrier. Stay tuned.

So while on full thrust for take-off he decided to accelerate... How did he do that then? Freddie Flintstone style or?

Ian BellReply toIan Bell
I'm a pilot BTW (admittedly single prop) but I know that since the days of Freddie Laker and his 75% thrust takeoffs on long runways and subsequent shallow climb, planes go maximum thrust for takeoff to gain maximum altitude early in the case of an emergency return being required..

Because he wasn't at max thrust, he was at epr setting for weight and length of runway along with temperature of the day and altitude of airfield. That's called derated thrust.

Wow! What are the air Controllers doing? Drinking Chinese tea?

Glad he got rewarded if it happened in the UK he would have been sued.

This payment will have an unintended consequence of a small number of pilots seeking to exploit the next safety gap to receive cash and a heros welcome. What did the FA's do to justify a bonus? I'm skeptical of the whole story.

This was on flight simulator yeh?

Fair play to the pilot but why on Earth reward the cabin crew with£71K? They wouldn't have been aware of what had happened until informed about it.

It's not really 'full power' when they take off its only about 80% of what the engines capable of, don't quote me on the 80% but it's something like that

Did they fire some traffic controllers?

Whoever was the air traffic controller in charge of the aircraft that was landing must never work for another airline again. Sadly, he or she will - and the next emergency might not end as happily as this one.

ATCs work for the government in China. The two controllers involved have had their ATC licences cancelled for life.
