Discussions of arming S Korea and Japan.....the protocols following the area was never signed off by China post WWII......one reason for the Korean war....and technically it is just a cease fire currently. The international boundaries are not part of any China agreement.

Vietnam isn't a little further south of Hong Kong... it's a little further west. The USS John C. Stennis passed Vietnam when they left Singapore on their way to the Philippines... Vietnam would have been a little further north as they passed. I don't think a 116,000 ton carrier is going to make the 90 km journey from the Gulf of Tonkin up the Red River Delta to Hanoi.
