We all battle our own demons. Sad he had to lose his battle. His addictions are NOT who he was. He was a brilliant and talented man. May he rest in peace.

I never met Prince but he was my brother in Christ. I hope I have the privilege of meeting him in the resurrection.

His addictions were exactly who was along with the perverted sex.

None of us will get out of this world alive. Death is awaiting us all.

No one wants the people they admire to have faults and weaknesses. Yes, his music was brilliant and he was a wonderful human being. That doesn't mean he was impervious to moments of weakness. All I know is his music will live on.

if he DIED from his addictions, then that's a pretty significant part of who he was.

Surprised the left hasn't called for an all out ban of drugs like they do guns. Using liberal logic maybe we should ban all musicians and hollywood stars to prevent this national tragedy (Sarcasm) Prince is dead-get over it. It should not be in the headlines every freaking day. I would much rather see the death of American heros held in high regard and the plight of the homeless vets so people would actually wakeup..

What are you in like 10th grade? Do you know who the left are? Listen and comprehend what the adults speak of before regurgitating it back up in public forums so as to try to not make yourself like a fool.......Nevermind all who waste there time here are fools , myself included!

Terry your words fall to the floor like the drool you send out. I cannot believe you cannot comprehend the garbage that is used to force people like you to live in a tiny world with unicorns and politically correct snowflakes looking for their safe space. Maybe you should find yours and stay away from a computer.

The guy was a drug addict. Nobody really wants to deal with the addiction problem we have in this country. With drugs so easy to obtain and now we have an administration that has no problem putting pushers back on the street, we have a problem. It appears Prince had a problem with both legal and illegal drugs. The doctors that continue to prescribe these drugs are as bad as the street pushers. We need to focus on getting people off drugs, not making it easier for them to get them.

@ Gary: This is so true , they help getting off the stuff, not helping them get it !!!!!!

Gary, I do agree with you about trying to get people off of drugs & about Dr.'s prescribing too many pain pills but what I don't agree with is saying he had a problem with illegal drugs. Why, because a drug dealer & a lawyer for 2 half siblings say so. First of all I'm not about to believe a drug dealer until all the facts are in. As far as the lawyer, he's quoting 2 people who are dead so they can't back up his story & one of those siblings had sued Prince for copyright infringement so in my opinion, she would probably say anything. I do think that he became dependent on Percocet which he was given for his bad hips. I do feel for him in that respect because I know what kind of pain he was in because I am waiting to get a hip replacement & I can tell you, unless you have been through this you have no idea what te pain is like. Don't judge....especially when you don't know what he was going through.

Why does it take a celebrity to have authorities looking at the doctors involvement with drug addiction? Let's face it -- drug addiction is at epidemic status. When the money trail leads back to people in authority like doctors, lawyers, politicians then something might be done to combat the problem. How about making all drugs legal then there might be some accountability?

Doctors easily write scripts for pain medication in 60 count containers. Just say you have an on going ache or pain and its that easy to slowly kill yourself.

It's a GRIM turn because we lost another BRILLIANT artist but the news that painkillers would be the cause is not surprising. There are so many people out there famous or not who are addicted to them and need them to function...that's what's GRIM...they need them to function..sad but so true! It's such a shame that all this BAD #$%$ is out there for one to get addicted to!

I am sickened as each day goes by since Prince, this beautiful shining light has passed. Reading more and more how his privacy, that he guarded so closely in life is being desecrated in death.

I have no problem still respecting his musical genius, his legacy, and the impact he had in modern cultural even with this revelation of drug abuse. The alleged cocaine use is disturbing because it flies in the face of the person who I thought he was, but I still hold him as the best musical entertainer of all time.

THE PAST IS THE PAST, NO ONE IS AT ALL PERFECT IN THIS WORLD, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE WENT THROUGH IN HIS CAREER. DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHO YOU THOUGHT HE WAS, THIS IS HIS LIFE NOT YOURS. DRUGS DON'T MEAN ANYTHING, IN OUR LIFE WE HAVE MANY DEMONS, I AM QUITE SURE YOU HAVE ONE YOURSELF…..DON'T LET ANYTHING BECOME "DISTURBING" AS IN SOME POINT OF YOUR LIFE YOU WILL HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IT….

Let us also remember, the media will use any information about someone like Prince. They don't tell you WHEN something happened, only that it happened; such as Prince's supposed use of cocaine.

Why is it that these loony celebs are always in so much more pain than everyone else? The fact that so many of them die young...well, they call that Darwinism.

May have become addicted after hip surgery a decade ago. Seems to be too many stories of addiction to pain killers and transferring to heroin. Apparently no heroin in this case but more needs to be done to avoid addiction from powerful prescribed narcotics.

Opie

It is hard to take enough Percocet to kill yourself... in large doses the other ingredients cause stomach issues & tinnitus... I bet it will be some combination of drugs or heroin.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]

Every article slanted against opioids and pain management. He had HIV and was managing his pain, when there is no cure, pain management is critical. Makes me sick the government is on this new path to destroy those who are trying to seek quality of life with pain management meds and uses Prince to influence anti-opioid treatment.

repeated use, strain on the whole body system and heart, combine that with reported zip sleep for 4 or more days...heart failure...most likely...

Life is not pain free. When I lost a leg at sixteen I realized quickly that pain killers are dangerous. So you decide you'll put up with a little or a lot of pain everyday in the future. I only take aspirin every now and then and push through. I'm sixty three now and shake my head at the talented people who never understood how the pain must be overcome mentally and sadly cut their lives short. It never was supposed to be pain free.

Edward wow so much wisdom. The current crop of Americans are so soft.

They will never grasp that concept, that every little scrape need not be medicated, that their egos need not be medicated, that worthwhile things just take time to build. Time, and blood sweat and tears.

The whole reason the country is in decline, right there. I don't mean to be overly negative as some people do realize these things but they are too few when compare to the carpet baggers.

Yep, exactly.... no everyone is an addict and pain management can most of the time be just dealing with the pain... a don't do that and it wont hurt mentality.

edward.........musical entertainers, like Princess, are looking for more creativity when they take opioids and sometimes it leads them to hurting themselves when they start believing they can float on air, like when they jump from stage platforms with 6 inch heel boots on like he did often.

Doctors these days throw pain pills at every little ache. I twisted my back and leg at work and had to go to the doctor. All he did was give me an over the top pain killer. When I went back for a follow up, he asked me if I wanted some more. I had taken one pill because I couldn't sleep one night. I told him I still had most of the bottle left and he told me to take one every night.

I still have all but that one.

Doctors are owned by big pharma, they throw meds at everything now.

Everyone has their own personal story There are people that are in severe chronic pain every minute of every day. I am one of them, My disease will never get better, it will only get worse with time. Real pain can not be "overcome mentally". That is like telling someone who is paralyzed, "you can walk, it's all in your head" It's been 12 years for me, I've been on the same pain med daily for 8 years. I never take more than prescribed. I'm still in a lot of pain, the pain med does just enough to keep me out of the Hospital. Ironically if Marijuana was legalized everywhere, I could reduce my pain med even further. Plus MJ helps with so many of the other medical issues I have, like nausea, insomnia, convulsions..etc. So don't pretend to know, what you don't

Pain killing meds are really getting a bad rap these days. Percocet is a great pain reliever, but it has to be used responsibly under the eyes of a physician.

If a person is allowed 2 pills per day, then that is it ! And he/she must exercise strong self control to maintain that discipline. But it is the person using it ! Not the drug itself. Let us not take this drug off the market.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
DebbieReply toJames

James, totally agree. All of the new laws that are coming about over pain meds now days are only hurting people like my mother-in-law who is 85, bed ridden with crippling rheumatoid arthritis.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
GECReply toJames

Amen! A person needs to be responsible for he/she takes for any medication. Pain medication is suppose to take the edge off only, and not to make the pain go away all the way. And people tend to forget that. My gosh, your suppose to be a responsible person for everything you do in life from what you eat, how you drive a car, and yes even the medication/pain killers you have been prescribed. It's very easy to take more, but think about how your not only hurting yourself but also the love ones around you.

ScottReply toJames

#$%$ needs to be approved in all states. Sadly, the manufacturers of opiates will fight against that. They would rather have people swallowing narcotics so they can make shareholders happy.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
flyersfanReply toJames

The problem is that opioid pain killers like perc and oxy loose there analgesic and narcotic effect over a short period of time with sustained use which causes people using them "responsibly" to take more to get the needed pain relief and yes, the narcotic effect. It starts with just taking 1 extra pill a day and snowballs overtime to a very serious problem and a physical addiction which causes more pain than the original reason they were taking it to begin with.

When I had disc surgery 15 years ago, my surgeon prescribed post-op Percocet, 14 pills which I took as directed. At my follow up appointment I told him I was out of pain meds and would like more of them. "I bet you would", he said. "But you're not getting those". He wrote an Rx for Vicodan. A week later at my next follow up, I asked for more pain pills. He told me to start using my choice of OTC pain reliever and to start taking daily walks. I am so grateful that I had a doctor who practiced the principle of "do no harm".

How screwed up is this? You have a drug using musician dead. Then we have all of these tributes and everyone saying how great he was.

We have soldiers coming home who people do not even acknowledge. We have teachers, police, and firefighters who all contribute to society.
