What possesses a person, who obviously has much wealth, to literally drive themselves to death? Did Prince need to have a grueling schedule that prevented him from seeking healing to his pain? He obviously did not make his health a top priority. Modern medicine just masks the problem and with the rise of homeopathy and proper living he could have probably lived much longer and healthier.

A man that had taken complete control of his musical empire could have easily taken control of his health as well. Ultimately, it appears, that he did not want good health, so in the end his demise was his own doing.

Yes I don't think these couch potatoes realize the intense work of entertainers and the reason they use the medications to push on to the next show. They have some tough schedules to meet. And of course the keep showing up as long as they can.

One has very little to do with the other. Many addicts have appeared successful, have been successful, but cannot rid themselves of an illogical addiction.

PAIN do you understand ????? 24 hours a day 7 days a week ! Unbearable PAIN ! Sometimes you can not handle the constant PAIN no matter who you are Or how much fame and fortune you have.... Get a clue you fools ,that think they know it all

At some point, all the fame and money and lewdness you can ever bestow on yourself catches up to you. When you can't find satisfaction no matter what, or how or who or when or where, all seems lost. Then when you get a bit older and can't perform like before, your over blown ego grabs you and convinces you it is time to go. I am older than this guy is but i can bet i am and was a lot happier. Everyone should know, God Himself loves Y O U. No matter what. When you let that go, you are lost forever.

Why can't the investigators do their investigation without any input from TMZ/National Enquirer--the number 1 gossip pot stirring publication. If they are listening or reading TMZ's BS then they are just chasing tails and tales. Don't be shocked when the medical examiner reports that the cause of death is undeterminable or that he died from natural causes. Then, I hope somebody sues TMZ for slander and sues Walgreen's for telling they the meds he picked up with 4 trips to the pharmacy the week of his death was for AIDS medications. Obama's newest HIPPA law change is sending people to prison for violating HIPPA.

Haters need not read this post. For The True Prince Fans!!!!!!! This story is not Grim it is heartbreaking. Prince was a Genius and that's a fact. He was also human, who live --better than most. He had an infinite amount of love to give. The proof is in his love ballads. He was a son, a brother and some fortunate woman's lover. I have NEVER heard anything derogatory about him. If there was anything out there we would have heard about it. It hurts me to think how he must have suffered and how he felt he had to hide his addiction from the public, while some of these moronic celebrities will end up cheesing on Peoples Magazine talking about how they beat their addiction. How terribly lonely that must have been for him to keep this all inside. It's #$%$ me off how those who have not done a fifth of what this man has done is sitting on their #$%$ judging this man. The proof is in some of these hateful, judgmental comments I am reading. Anyway I have spent 10 days wishing that this were some awful dream. Although his music may be released, there will be no appearances and no more concerts. There will be no more chances to catch a glimpse of that beautiful smile and to see the "badass" glimmer in those eyes. The tragedy is that he did not get in to rehab, can the damn media let him Rest In Peace? Will people turn on him now that they know that he was a human being, dealing with a whole lot of pain. Some #$%$ had the nerve to bring up Michael Jackson. Really??? Prince had nothing in common with that self-loathing child molester. Prince may have broken more than a few hearts, but he never really hurt anyone but

himself. To the real Prince fans, you know that he brought beauty is this world by sharing his gift with us.

To quote Dan Akroyd on the death of John Belucci when there were negative comments because his death was due to a drug overdose (heroin), "Greatness begets license." Belucci's last hit was administered by a female acquaintance at a party because he was too stoned to do it himself.... she was prosecuted for her deed.

I replied in another that the difference is that we sufferers take them for pain and get no feeling of pleasure from them while addicts are not in pain and take them because without the pain it gives them a form of pleasure. Prince was NOT an addict. He was a man in pain.

Sad that so many artists are lost to drugs &/or alcohol. We put them on a pedestal then seem shocked when they can't meet our impossible standards.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
ExtreemeReply toAnn

It is their ability to see and feel the world in ways that the average person does not that make these people artistic. Part of that is both the joy and the depression. It's nothing new. They have studies that show many greats from the past, both artists and musicians, such as Van Gogh and Mozart, suffered depression at times. They just self-medicated with the booze of the day. Today they would probably be addicts.

These famous people are well known by friends and family and often even the public to be drug users. But sadly, no one can make an addict stop being an addict but themselves. Many never make it or make it only to relapse. The people who provide their legal or illegal drugs are in it for the money. These celebrities pay substantially more for doctors who will accommodate them. Family members often enable them but even when they don't, they have little control or ability to change them. Sad but true.

I was prescribed pain killers for Rheumatoid Arthritis and taking them did help the pain but after a while, the cure is worse than the issues you started with in the first place. Nothing is more addictive than an Opioid and it took some work to get off of 30 mg per day or codeine.

The saddest part is this is nothing new, stars being controlled by pain killers of various types. Sports stars often are, Elvis, Prince, and many others have lost their lives to just the type of legal drugs that are over prescribed or simply abused. To say nothing of the illegal drugs that have taken stars lives.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
JReply tomike m

When taken correctly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with most opiods. Blaming the drug instead of the people who abuse them or for the small amount of Doctors who illegally write prescriptions for them to people that sell them is like blaming the bullet or the gun for shooting someone instead of the the person who pulled the trigger. Generalizing opiods shows utter ignorance.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
ryanReply tomike m

Wow. Opiates are EXTREMELY addicting. And more people than not have all sorts of trouble getting off of them (large percentage never do) completely ignoring the fact doctors can prescribe opiates more addictive than heroin for extended periods of time, should be a crime. You blaming someone for a major problem in our country. because if you actually read anything about the issue, you would see prescription drug overdoses lead ALL other drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, guns, etc etc in deaths...but instead you open your ignorant mouth and spout a bunch of #$%$. Which shows who the ignorant one actually is. So easy to talk #$%$ when you know nothing of the issue at hand.

"investigators told the media that they are focusing on the role that painkillers might have played in the musician’s death"

"Today, the county sheriff investigating the death has asked for help from the Drug Enforcement Administration, as prescription painkillers were found in Prince’s possession when he died"

And what did I say...

"Armybeef 4 days ago

He accidentally died from an overdose of prescribed pain medication...now let's wait and see"

But you idiots will see this...

"This news came shortly after a TMZ report claimed that Prince’s emergency landing days before his death was caused by a drug overdose"

"was caused by a drug overdose"

And immediately go...OMG, he was a crack addict, OMG, he was a heroin addict, instead of using common sense, oh wait, I forgot, sense is no longer common on the internet.

I was involved in a serious car crash a number of years ago. And then dropped two stories on my neck and head in a work accident. As a result, I take pain meds daily just to be able too function, due to the extreme (and I mean extreme), pain I am in 24 hours a day. I have done some surgeries with very little improvement.

I have been told by my spine surgeon I need fusions on my neck and back and due to the severe damage,mI could be at risk of losing the ability to walk during surgery.

So I have put it off for as long as possible. I also realize how d*mn dangerous these meds are. So I have a strict self limit on how many I take. And some days it still hurts so bad, I can do nothing productive. So I understand how easily some people can overdose on meds to try and get rid of the pain.

On a side note: I watched an interview with Prince on The Arsenio Hall Shw a couple years ago when it came back on the air. And to me, Prince seemed very "spacey" and sometimes incoherent during the interview. I said then, he seemed under the influence of some type of drug.

What kind of meds does your doc give you, Ocean?....I also had a car accident 4 years ago and have severe lower back and neck pain that also cause heavy, frequent headaches.

[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
HilaReply toOcean

I have also been told that I need surgery for fusion on my cervical spine and back, with stabilizing rods and pins, and also risk paralysis during surgery. I have decided to deal with the pain, which you are correct, is agonizing, and have been fighting pain meds for a long time because I fear dependency. I am widowed with a young child and can't take that chance, even though the pain gets so bad at times, I wish I could take something to make it go away.

What in this story is new? Michael Padden hasn't been involved with Prince for 25 years and is only repeating rumors he heard at that time. According to the local press he was contacted by Prince's siblings who wanted him to sue Prince (and they contacted him because he had already tried to sue Prince four earlier times). And the two - of seven siblings who contacted him are the two who are now years dead from their own drug problems.

Occult Paradigm Shift

Our Federal government has spent 100's of billions fighting the so called war on drugs, and yet prescription drug addiction is getting worse and talked about for decades, and apparently little headway has been made on illegal drug smuggling. Why? And now, after decades of people being busted for marijuana, many states have decriminalized weed, which is a good thing, but not at the expense of a marketing campaign to sell more drugs. The government doesn't give a F'K about the well being of the People, the children or society, but is basically organized crime with the one goal of taking money. If you think more proof is necessary to validate the corruption in government, then you are a Neanderthal where your highest achievement will be to get stoned 24/7 and be a plight on society. If you have a brain, then use it, and make decisions for the benefit of not just yourself, but your family, the children, and your country.

Prince made his bed, and deserves no sympathy, but those who enabled him should be ashamed. I wasn't a fan, but know that he was one of the most musically gifted people I've ever had a chance to see. I only wish he had played music that would have shown the expanse of his talents. I for one believe the pop culture often keeps brilliant artists from using their talents to their highest abilities. Instead, they adapt to what the machines tell them what to write and play.

GordonReply toOccult Paradigm Shift

I actually agree with you. The government sat on the sidelines, as the drug companies went to general practice docs and told them the use of Vicodin and Percocet for back aches, knee aches is perfectly safe. That the drugs are not that addictive. The only time a strong opioid should be used is after surgery or for a broken bone. 30 day scripts should be 10 days.

They are enslaving a society. I never liked pain killers. I got a dislocated toe, and the ER DOCTOR GAVE ME PERCOCET. When the pain was wheening, I noticed that the Percocet made my brain 'happy.' If I did not get educated quickly by my podiatrist, I could have gotten hooked. He said it was way too strong and convinced me not to take them. He switched them out with tramadol.

99% of addicts never start out abusing drugs. Their own doctors on the advice of sales reps, get them started. 2 of my brothers have become dedicated to opioids. They both had back surgery. So I can understand, but their doctors over prescribe. They need to get wheened off.

So sad. All for profit and stock gains.

Gordon,; I've had 3 spine surgeries and without opiates I would literally have zero quality of life and would have taken my life many years ago instead. You have no idea how debilitating spine pain can actually be. Are your brothers actual addicts or just dependent? There's a huge difference. And your stats are incorrect. Those who become addicts are those who already are prone to or have already had substance abuse problems of some kind. It's people like you who don't have the true facts that make legitimate pain patients look bad and attach a stigma to us.

Ok, he had opiates on his property, possibly even on him. The question is what role they, if any, played in his death. Also did someone force him to overdose. Of course not. They already said there was no evidence of foul play. So why are they digging all this up? What importance is it for the public to know about any of this? Absolutely none. He was loved by everyone who was close to him including his fans. Instead of trying to depict him as a raving drug addict just let the man rest in peace.

"What importance is it for the public to know about any of this?" The importance is that prescription painkillers can be deadly. If someone like Prince can die from them, anyone can. If it was an overdose of prescription opiates that killed Prince, it is possible that he had more than one physician prescribing them. In that case, the physicians are not necessarily on the hook for this.

His death should be a lesson to people. It's sad that he died, but if it was due to drugs, a lot of people should take note and take heed. There's nothing wrong with taking a pill now and then, but you can become addicted to prescribed drugs just as easily as illegal drugs.
