@Kam Mac - I'm not justifying or rationalizing anything - I said that Mao "screwed up big time", and he did - the "Great Leap Forward" and "Cultural Revolution" (if he was even responsible for that one) were disastrous. But that doesn't negate the good things he accomplished, which laid the foundation for China's subsequent stability and growth. Without Mao, China could still be totally divided, corrupt, poor, backward, dominated by vicious, genocidal foreign powers, just like it was up until 1949. Why don't you learn what the British, French, Russians, Japanese, etc. did to the Chinese people? Drugs all over the place, severe poverty and starvation, horrible crime, constant war... I guess all that is fine with you, right, simply because they don't happen under a red flag?
