This is not new!! Got used to meeting armed police/soldiers in Nice last year! Hope town gets its cosmopolitan attitude back right away ..looking forward to my next visit!!

If that's what it takes, then so be it. It doesn't solve the underlying problem of too many 8th century barbarians roaming around freely though. Have to get rid of them all.

A very sensible and Pro-active approach.Event of recent have changed the thinking with the old adage of 'Prevention is better than a cure'- would you prefer to be on an un-defended beach?

I would rather them see then patrolling the beaches than feeling like a target

This is a very GOOD thing. We feel much safer by their presence.

I was in France seven years ago. I find it heartbreaking, just how much the world's changed since then.

Reminds me of a documentary I watched in BBC 3 with a dude going on patrol with the Mexican army on a beach

If it protects our children, and allows them to play in safety, they will quickly become immune to such a sight.

At least you can be sure about your safety. I hope other European countries will follow suit.

at least they are doing something. Makes for a change ... Poor soldiers though - and that one a topless beach :-)

I'm here now and talk about sensationalism. It's not like the article at all.... not seen a single copper in Nimes never mind the army! Don't be put off by the story.Lovely and sunny and still not expensive.
