One more thing
The most greedy being those who already have more than the rest of us.

and another thing . . . Hawking reckons Brexit was driven by envy and isolationism . . . Garbage, we're sick of unelected, unaccountable swine in the EU telling us what to do and charging us mighty wedge for the privilege.

Academics never have to face the consequences of decisions that are made that affect the public at large. Book smart he may be, but as far as the challenges facing the ordinary working man, his understanding is about the same level as my grasp of quantum physics.

You're over estimating your understanding of quantum physics.

Greed, narcissistic, selfishness, apathy. These are the downfalls of man. Until we overcome these the world will continue its downward plunge.

The planet is overcrowded...and it is the less bright who have more children

To uber-scientists like Hawking it's all about the "money for the furtherance of science". He is a very clever man, but not as clever as he thinks if he thinks the ordinary guy in the street is willing to give up his sovereignty and sign up to be dominated by the EU autocrats just so that scientists can keep their grants or move to Cologne University without a visa!

Good. It's not a nice race anyway. I've said it for years. We will be our own down fall.

This country is already overcrowded - maybe that is the reason we voted out, as this mass immigration must stop!!!!!

The answer to the heading is YES....without a shadow of doubt, greed is the worst of the deadly sins, greed is behind every trouble there is in this world....when the world places People above Money we will all be in a better place, at the moment.....it's the other way round.

Every aspect of life seems to be ABOUT money. Profits at the expense of people

I'm afraid he is correct , just look at the EU , they control 27 countries , even make their laws etc , they all have to adopt the euro pay into the club to keep it going , when they give money to a failing country or poor country it has to pay back at an exorbitant rate , all the unelected officials are paid massive salaries and spend money wastefully without account , its all about greed .

The reason people voted Brexit is that they did not want to be chained to a sinking corpse. The 'remain' camp had plenty of opportunity to convince us of the virtues of the Political Union but failed miserably - nothing to do with sharing wealth, as multi millionaire Hawkins suggests.

This division of wealth is nothing new for the human race, yet we are still here . Overpopulating the earth at an exponential rate and continuing to consume finite resources and natural habitats however are more serious concerns.

People are obsessed with material possessions, rather than the true riches of life.

Pessimistic about our species future? If humans died out I'm sure the rest of the planet's flora and fauna would (if they could) give thanks.

Selfishness and our inability to do what's best for our survival and the planet will end up being our downfall. I just can't see man surviving the next thousand years.

We'll survive as a species. It's our current civilisation that won't last. We have more than enough time to save it. The question is do we have the will to do so.

It will be medieval religious beliefs that will hold back human progress and destroy societies as happened in the past.
