Yes there have been earthquakes since the beginning of time, it's that they are increasing and are more frequent that is getting people's attention.sadandtiredReply toArmywife
@labyrinth, I just googled it a few years ago. Look up "are earthquakes more frequent". That's the best I can remember. I was curious after a spate like this. Sorry, it just stuck with me because I was wondering if we had more, or if more were being reported.Surrounded by fools
After the 2 quakes last week in Japan, does this one herald the passing of Planet X?Masculinist
What is is with all the Quakes now? - 20/30 years ago there was never this many.jnmelbReply toMasculinist
Yes there was but it required buying/reading a newspaper or watching the TV news if if was serious enough and whether they could get pictures or video within a reasonable timeframe to still make it newsworthy. Three decades on everything is instant news with anyone able to upload photos and video.Illuminati_Confirmed

Wonder what's going on under California. I would think that it would be more concerning if the faults aren't moving a little while others are moving world wide. Anybody know?B HaveReply tosadandtired
We've had a couple of minor ones that we've felt recently. Most recent was in Oxnard. If you type in los angeles earthquake activity you can find a list at caltech. We live in the Santa Monica Mountains and we can hear them. It's the most haunting, grinding sound. very loud. I was in Ecuador in February. Fantastic place. Lovely people.OMGUKReply toyengirl
Stupid comment - i am at home and my husband at work waiting to hear news of my husbands family and our friends in various parts of Ecuador and you are making stupid comments! Typical idiotic american. I believe those mattresses had fallen from a shop - and if they hadnt, I imagine the sheets would have come off - hopefully nobody on those beds were crushed to death. Idiot.Aussiek
If the news would just put the real news on not what they are dictated to show, people would really know whats going on in the world, i know about Japan and the moment i heard the first at 6.2 i had this feeling that a bigger one was coming and next day woke up on the news 7.1 then but then all the rest around the world more & more come on media we need to know what these scientists know right now, give people warningAccount ClosedReply toAussiek
The earthquakes are not linked - they are completely different fault lines. Large earthquakes frequently happen in these regions; if you live there, you know you are likely to get them. It is just a tragic coincidence that so many have happened in a short space of time.
