Ah, I see everyone forgets the pioneering Concorde etc. China didn't have one of those. All that needs to happen in the west is for the nitpickers and bean counters to get out of everyone else's way and get the job done. First, the will has to exist.[CN]

I wonder how much the trains lean into each other because of the suction created when they pass.[CN]

I wonder if anyone would survive if a train wrecked at that speed.[CN]

It seems to me, too, that there wouldn't be.[CN]

I'd guess no, and I sadly guess at some point we'll find out.[CN]

been on a japanese shinkansen train, that was one hell of an experience, quite, comfortable, fast and yes on time.[CN]

If you have the will, ability and the product...you can fix anything...even the train service in Britain is fixable......you mainly need the right people, not the 'incumbents' who only go to work for the money and keep the good people out of jobs.[CN]

Democracy sometimes sucks...Chinese authorities decided to make them and period. No need to listen to Johns and Maries Doe´s opinions.[CN]

Ask the man who stood in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square. He would have told you communism sucks more.

China is definitely not a communist country no matter what the labels may still infer.

So, Esse, when you giving up YOUR house for the train? Chinese will force entire villages out of the way of whatever the government thinks is best.

dwhite you know nothing about chinese thinking. china builds half of its high speed lines on bridges so that the farmers get to keep most of the ladn for farming.

Another rubbish DM video. Wouldn't it have been better with the camera pointed at the approaching train rather than the departing one? And why then show a slow motion version? Didn't really add much, did it?

Yet we have slower journey times in the UK than they had in the 19th Century.

Eurostar passes at 600kmh, and that's startling to see. The video would have been better filmed from the front of the rain btw.

New Zealand long distance trains are limited to one very slow train a day and it's expensive but perfect, beautiful scenery and no demand as cheaper to fly.But the UK couldn't cope and needs High Speed, such as shame as life in the slow lane can be relaxing.

Totally agree! Although I do wish we had more trains over here. Would unclog the roads and parking lots too :)

The one and only 30 km length Maglev. It even includes perhaps a 20 degree bend. I caught the train their and back after checking in for a return flight. £8 to go more than twice as fast as I had ever travelled on the ground before. I was disappointed it only go to 429 rather than the advertised 430 km/h.

In Chicago, trains run at 10-15 MPH, and passengers get the pleasure to take in the smell of bum BO and urine.

America wiped out most of it's rail service in favor of buses. And the bus, tire and rubber companies were responsible too. In some places, they came in and ripped up tracks overnight. Now we have the taxpayer funded amtrack service, which is fighting to be the worst service with the most expense.

Car companies also played a big part in the dismantling of the rail roads

"amtrack service, which is fighting to be the worst service with the most expense."--------- I think a few of ours here in the UK are winning that fight, sadly...

Meanwhile Britain is still studying the possibility of building HS2. By the time this is built, it would be time to conduct another study for the Maglev! The sad state of British railways.

The problem is agreeing what to destroy in the process of building it.China doesn't have that problem...but yeah our railways are slow

HS2 is a white elephant. GB is just not large enough to make it worthwhile. Conventional train journey times in China can be 40+ hours. HS trains shave that time by hours not minutes. From personal experience they are comfortable and extremely efficient.... ALWAYS on time!

HS2 should have been maglev and be capable 300mph at a minimum but todays politicans have no vision.

UK technically doesn't as well, compulsive purchase orders, but parliament is forever bickering about everything. Then they have endless upon endless reports and commissions about it.

This isn't news ... I regularly travel between Hangzhou and Shanghai at 400kph. What surprises more is that it takes hours to get from Gatwick to Brighton., provided a train rocks up. Southern rail is unbelievable!

Pete59Reply toJulielomo
Wiki says since 2011 all restricted to 300 km/h.

Not exactly Southern Rail, is it. When their trains pass each other you could lean out the window and repaint the other train in fancy new colours complete with a logo, and then watch the paint dry.
