Definitely a brother as you can have another child.

Her mum and dad could knock out another brother

She can create another baby, she cannot recreate her brother who still has a life to live

it's a hard decision . you can make both of them reasonable !! anyway, the person who is affected by that decision should be the one and only to decide. all criticisms are not fair to her.

Very simple decision, you can have another baby later, it's a no brainier

How do you know she can have another baby?

So no information about why it was so urgent, how far along she was, or anything else pertinent to the discussion ? Another great piece of reporting by the Daily Mail.

12 weeks pregnant, it's in the article. If he needs the transplant he can't wait nine months.

It did say she was 12 weeks pregnant. He's been ill for a year, so I would imagine it was getting pretty desperate. My uncle just died from this after a marrow transplant failed. He had been sick for less than a year. Had she been further along, it may have swayed her decision, but 12 weeks is still in the first trimester when many miscarriages happen.

She has memories with her brother who she's known for years. It's not that hard a choice.

I would've done more research, kept the baby, donated the marrow and hoped for the best.

What a noble thing to do. I can't begin to imagine how difficult a decision that would have been for her, her husband and their families. I hope her brother pulls through and she conceives again in the future.

Nothing noble about killing your unborn child.

Sacrifice a life to save a life, Seems pretty simple to me, you can have another baby but you can't replace your brother

They just take some bone marrow -usually from a hip bone so i dont see how that will affecther baby any more then her donating a pint of blood!

I think the doctors would know. And it is nothing like donating blood.Try google to educate yourself.

You don't know what you're talking about, it's far more involved than that. It's standard not to allow pregnant women to donate, depending on which procedure used, medication is required or a general anaesthetic.

It's actually very invasive. Also, pregnant woman can't donate blood either!

An awful decision to make, but she could have another baby but she wouldn't get another brother. Glad it wasn't mine to make as I really don't know which way I would have gone.

The brother should have decided for her and let her keep her baby

Re:"...Sadly for the 24-year-old, after discussing the potential donation with experts, she was warned that donating marrow would have a significant negative effect on her child..."I would choose the brother over the pregnancy in a second! I could always impregnate, again in the future; (excluding my vasectomy, of course...)

her choice of course and by no means am i judging that choice but, why not just wait till after donating bone marrow to see if ending her pregnancy is truly needed in the first place?? especially when there has been some cases of those that have chosen not to abort and ended up delivering healthy babies afterwards.

Because the procedure would do so much harm to the baby it wouldn't have gone on anyway. Didn't you read the article? It came down to a decision between the two. Really I do wonder if they teach reading and writing in the schools these days.

hmm obviously i read article! English may not be my native tongue but, i did fluently learn to speak and read english within months of getting here when they did actually teach real R&W skills. and guess what i also learned how to research things instead of automatically accepting things i read as sole facts! did you read and comprehend the end of my comment?? there ARE cases of healthy babies being born after donors chose not to abort!!

The baby was probably a girl.

When you do something that has such awful consequences then engage and share your experience.....otherwise have a bit of empathy rather than just passing poor comments.

Asking Westerners if a member of an another culture made the right ethical decision is a little pointless.

There's nothing amazing about ending the life of your unborn child.

Some people have no shame on pushing there beliefs on other. I think wot she is doing is brave and so scary and recovery from a termination isn't that long a few weeks. So could be helping her brother with in a month or so. I would do the same.
