sooner would be preferable. The Earth could do with a head start to recover once we are gone.

I worry about my sub teen kids managing to live a long life on this Earth at the current rate we are damaging and pillaging its resources. That and unsustainable rates of human breeding.

'I think the human race has no future if it doesn't go to space.' Should have said that in the 1950's when accountacy dominated uk short termist government idiots abandoned the uk space programme, accelerating the brain drain and contributing to uk decline.

The reality is the distance to any planet that might be habitable is so great we will never get there. We have to make our planet work.

If man could ever escape this planet he would have started by colonizing the moon....but we have not..... we cannot get past the firmament.

For many years now Ive held similar views about the Earths ability to survive.I look at all the cars and think of the oils being used. How long can that last. The population explosion.Seas fished out. How long can it all go on.And of course the ever present threat of nuclear Armageddon. Some crazy will hit the button and its Goodnight Vienna.

The human body is just a biological puppet we wear for a limited time. There are plenty of meat puppets available in the physical universe. Hawking doesn't get it. Maybe in a 1000 years time they will get it.

Whilst There are some people I would say should be allowed to leave our home planet who are in no way guilty for what their predecessors did, I would suggest any alien intelligence would see humanity as a threat. a disease, a festering wound that needs to be cauterised. One person, A Human who thought`s were immortalised when he created a tv series that would break barriers & postulated some amazing ideals for humanity to strive to attain, That visionary summed up Humanity perfectly when humanity was put on trial for being "a grievously savage race" That visionary was Gene Roddenberry. Any Trekkie will identify with these ideals of his vision & how we should strive for better things other that the accumulation of wealth & power. Unless someone changes the path humanity is on then......................... We shall fade into oblivion

It's one pale species that's the curse on earth. The civilised humans get on with nature and vice versa.

Whilst his contribution to theoretical physics is clear, its a shame he has not used is great intellect on the problem of anti gravity or means of stellar propulsion. These are the ONLY things that are going to move us any further into space.

How does "anti-gravity" propel a spaceship that is outside the reach of any appreciable gravitational force like out in space? Oh of course it is what teh aliens use when they visit?

Anti gravity technology would make it easy to build a suitably large ship in orbit. I thought the benefits of not needing rockets was obvious.
