I'm 23 and have been atheist for as long as I've had self determining thoughts. I was taken to church as a child by my grandmother and "believed in God", however it quickly just didn't make sense as I could walk without any stumbling. This is also true for pretty much every child I grew up with at school. Only the weirdos were Christians in university too.

"I could walk without any stumbling" that is the heart of the gospel message, no one is good enough, we all break the rules and we all deseve judgement, which is why Jesus died, to take the punishment we deserve. Christianity is not about rules, its about believing in Jesus. its that simple.

@Aaron, I meant it literally. Old enough to walk like an adult does; without taking stumbling steps or easily falling over with a slight knock.

I don't think so, unvisible. Some atheists (well, quite a few) have a habit of attempting to humiliate people of faith into submission. Many religious people have fallen into line with the current trend (atheism), a few others keep to their own path, whichever faith it is. The 'sheep' are now those following the paths of agnosticism/atheism. I don't think there are enough true Christians left to sustain a significant 'flock'.

Out of the 2600+ gods that man has created, which one do you have faith in. Faith is nothing more than wishful thinking, believing in something not because there is any evidence that its true, just the desire for it to be true. A very dishonest way of thinking and is in no way a virtue.

Do you think independently of the greatest exponents of atheism or philosophy, Hugh? If you did think independently of them, you would have completely original thoughts all day every day. I can tell by the way you word your responses that you must be special indeed.

Not surprising when you look at whats going on in the world today. The brain washed seem to be increasing in numbers though, and wreaking havoc on us all. Religion has been PUSHED down our throats for far too long, and like most things some people are making a lot of money from it.

As the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer pointed out many years ago--if the religious had a choice between a God without an afterlife or an afterlife without a God, the vast majority would choose the latter. In short, it is the fear of death and the feeling of hopelessness and helplessness which such a fear understandably inspires, rather than love of God Himself, which is the root cause of all religious belief.

Religion was invented to control people. It has caused most of the war's over the last 2000 years and is responsible for millions of deaths. Religion is intolerant. But most of all , religion is for nutty folk that believe in made up rubbish written 2000 years ago based on no proof and has no evidence other than a manky cloth. Religious leaders have been found to have messed with kids in their care. Churches steal your money

Open EyesReply toTheDruiD
Prove that religion has caused most of mankind's war, why don't you post all of the wars fought by man throughout his history and we will examine them to see which ones were caused by religion, religion was not invented to control men, God gave his doctrine to us to save us from our destructive ways, you only need to look at countries without Christianity and you will see how messed up they are.

Not before time. The sooner the mental illness of religion is confined to the pages of history the better. If society is turning away from belief in sky pixies then it is maturing and improving.

Christians will soon look back on these as 'the good old days'. The Judeo-Christian days are drawing to a close for Europe, particularly Britain. We are now on an inexorable path to a very different future. That was what we chose. It was our choice. Too late now to moan and complain or blame others.

God did not create man, man created God to control man! We have seen a millennium of preachers of two out of three religious movements forming in the Middla East murdering and abusing their power in the name of their 'God'! Thanks but if there was a God, why does he allow mans cruelty to man in his name?

Of course when you abandon your religion you create a vacuum which another more aggressive religion is more than happy and willing to fill. So you lot should stop complaining that your country is being taken over because you are the ones that's simply handing it over
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
GlenReply toTheFatLeader
You have the misconception that "religion" is a necessity and that people will replace one with another. In fact religion as such is not necessary and more and more people are finding their own truth. In doing so they are not less moral or loving of their fellow humans.

But you don't have to stay that way as their is sufficient evidence to convince us of the existence of a creator, science even proves it. Science says, for every effect their must be a cause, you cannot have creation without a creator, no scientists have ever observed objects bringing themselves into existence, all things which have not always existed must have a creator.. And that's science fact.

random1Reply toFarmersboy
Open Eye, I'm afraid your argument doesn't hold up. If everything has a creator then who created God? If God is 'the uncaused cause' then it is special pleading which is a logical fallacy. Also as previously asked, how do you know?

Open EyesReply toFarmersboy
@Random 1, your first mistake is to believe that the one who invented the concept of creation is subjected to it himself, your question it's the equivalent of asking, what does blue smell like?, or, wanting to see a photograph of the world's first and only camera, you cannot put creation before God when it was not yet invented, it was God who invented the concept of creation, therefore he could not have been created, he must have had the attributes of one who is eternal, he must have always existed to rule over creation and not be subjected to it, if you ask the question who created God?, then you must ask the question who created the God that made God and so forth?,.no one ask the question how to create energy, as science proves energy is not created, it's only harnessed, if we can believe in this reality, why is it so hard to believe that God was never created?

RoryBReply toFarmersboy
Open Eyes, you have a very weird view of what science is. Even in a few years several life forms have been observed adapting to their environment and justifying over billions of years, the ability for life to evolve. However desperate you are to provide a scientific basis for your belief, it just ain't there.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
FarmersboyReply toFarmersboy
Who created your creator Open Eyes? Why, you did!
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
Ade13Reply toFarmersboy
Open Eyes - it is very true that science has observed that for every cause there is an effect. This does NOT mean that "creation must have a creator". When you say that, you are being specifically unscientific, because you have already assigned a cause (creator) without any evidence. Creation means that there must have been a creation cause. THAT is what science says. (It also says we don't know what that was yet.)

There is a surprise... so sensible people in this country don't believe the words written in a book a couple of thousand years ago when most of the world was illiterate and people believed the world was flat. Most modern societies have moved on since then. It will probably take another 1000 years to eradicate the nonsense that is religion.
