My old gran long departed always used to say "God works in a very mysterious way". It certainly puzzles me.

Your gran spoke the truth because I have witnessed things happen to prove this time and time again...

Time to remove these bishops from government as well. There is no place for religion in today's politics

"London is the country's most religious area" - and we all know which religion that is, but which the DM prevents me from typing. Sociologists predict that a combination of uncontrolled immig.ration, a disproportionate birth-rate and extremist views means that this same religion will become dominant in the UK within the next 30 years. Our values, culture and traditions are under threat as never before.

Why not just type the word "immigration"? Have the courage of your convictions.

@AK, If you want your comments to "disappear or take days to appear" simply spell all the words out in full, or use the exact words you want to use! It will be better to work around certain words... that way your comments get shown.

that's why your government must adopt the zero immigration policy, native Britons are otherwise killing themselves, giving over their country to immigrants who hate and despise Britain's culture and values as well as christianity.

All religions were and are a means of controlling the masses, before modern media where did your information and opinions come from? The town crier and your local priest (who was brother of the local lord of the manor so had a vested interest)

You don't have to associate with a religion to have Christian morals and standards. But you DO have to associate with a certain religion if you want to kill and maim.

Silly boy, no you don't. It might act as a cover, but then so does "political activism"!

Because no Christian has ever killed and maimed.

So we should be getting priviledged minority status soon then ? don't think so

You'll be given the status of an idiot. And it's an accurate representation. Pretty much doubt we're the minority. You might say we are to try to think highly of yourself, but we're not.

Organised religion - wielding power over communities, fear mongering causing people to never question but close their eyes to science, discovery and learning in favour of stories that keeps those at the top in power, causing wars and judgement of those of different faiths... The sooner we are without organised religion the better. I understand how it survived for so long in times when people had no access to learning, but not now. Give me a society that bases its laws on science and fact rather than religion any day.

We can all see the damage that has been done around the world in he name of religion. No wonder people fail to believe any more .

I have been Christened and wanted to get my baby daughter christened. It was like pulling teeth. From day one the reverend was rude and unwelcoming even calling me a hypocrite for not going to church every Sunday. He made it all extremely difficult and in the end we decided not to christen our baby as we were made to feel very unwelcome. If this is the way people are made to feel is it any wonder that Christians are on the decline? I'm sure any other religion would welcome a baby into their faith with open arms.

Good - Why on earth would any sensible person want to saddle their innocent daughter with this twaddle ?

More and more people in the modern world are waking up to the reality of religion and understanding that it is not required. Unfortunately some nations and certain religions are decades even centuries behind the modern world and still push extreme religious views.

I read somewhere " why do churches have lightning rods? seems like a lack of confidence" I have some discussions with religious people at work and I say, if it makes someone feel more comfortable to believe in God, go for it. it doesn't bother me if someone wants to pray before a football game, our country was built on religion. On the other hand, I say "If there is a mud slide in Chile and 1500 people are killed, you can't just rejoice in ,3 people were found alive, its a miracle" God is either responsible for everything or nothing.

I am a Catholic, but lost a lot of faith in the fact my priest said no room at the local Catholic school.l did all l could but they said requests from parents was so high just because we are Catholic does not mean a place for our children. That migrant children can take priority, and if a place comes available half way through term l should remove them from whatever school they are in .They are service children and suffer enough change l begged for the continuity for them to no avail. They are now so happy in a church of England school .Apart from we had to go to a tribunal to get them in it was the most stressful thing I have ever done.a mother will do anything for her children.I don't go to my priest anymore he let us down so badly when we needed him so much

Absolutely, I mean we could certainly do without the great social advances brought about by William Wilberforce, Emily Pankhurst, the Cadbury brothers, Joseph Rowntree nd many more. After all what ever did their faith do for us...........

Keep religion in their respective places of worship and out of politics and the world would be a far better place.

Maoist China and Stalin's Russia were not founded on secular beliefs, rather they replaced the established religions with worship and blind obedience to the state and the dictator. They were in effect, pseudo-religious states in themselves and certainly not based upon secular or humanist values so the comparison is a false one.

Religion is based on controlling the actions and thoughts of an individual in this life on the promise of salvation in the next

Durkeheim ( if my rusty old sociology, rather than Marxism recalls) said that a shared religious culture is the glue that holds a society together. Loose it and you get a broken and fragmented society which declines into anomie ( normlessness) and chaos.

Time to declare Britain a secular state and draw a line under the indoctrination of children by sky god believers, before we slide back into a new dark age. Some religions are relatively benign another is bringing misery to whole swathes of the world, all are delusional.

Separate the Head of State from the Head of the Established Religion, and get rid of automatic seats in the House of Lords for Bishops.
