After travelling billions of light years, bearing gifts and messages of peace on receiving our message, they are shot down!

Why do we assume other forms of life have the technology able to pick up our signals?

1960's Twilight Zone episode, where the landed extraterrestrials invite earthfolk to the alien planet with the accepted notion, "To Serve Man." All is pie in the sky, until earthfolk find out "To Serve Man" is their intent to use humans as their food source. Good stuff

Just create a fake death report and send them an invitation to a Kartrashian funeral, they will be flocking to the planet in no time

I was always under impression that we already sent messages. You learn something new every day.

Messages have been sent, yes. However, in practice, they would have been undetectable against the background radiation of the Sun unless someone was pointing an ultra-large radio detector array right at us and on the right frequency.

We already sent a lot of signs from our planet. We are transmitting on every range of frequencies since the first years of the twentieth century. These signals are travelling all over the universe. If there were somebody out there we should have an answer sooner or later, but I think it'll be very difficult.

"Target coordinates confirmed, my Lord!" "Very good, Commander. Order the fleet ot make the jump to light-speed!" Let's be sure that we can handle and rowdy visitors before we turn on the 'Open for Business' sign, hmmm?

1960's Twilight zone episode, "to serve man". Extraterrestrials land on earth inviting mankind to their planet. Humans are happy to know ET is so nice and take them up on their offer. Later do they find out that "to serve man" is ET's intent to use earthlings as a food source. Good stuff.

Yes I think the universe is probably teeming with life and we are regarded as a nursery planet / Amazonian tribe. Left alone till we show some manners ;)

We've been sending messages since the very first radio and tv broadcasts. Whoever might be listening will get those first.
